Wisconsin state troopers radar....
About 2 exits later I seen 5 highway patrol getting off the ramp and onto the highway. Of course I was nice and let them onto my interstate but anyways they all hauled A out of site and sure enough a couple miles up the road that convoy was pulled over!! Each had thier very own trooper
Just something to think about!!
So without admitting guilt you have pay the officer. Yea that makes perfect sense to me.

Your point is well taken though.
Am I missing something???The clear answer is to slow down a little. You get about 10-12 over the limit and anything over that is a gamble.
I do this for a living and in 15 years, I have never written anybody a ticket for anything less than 14 MPH over unless it is a school zone.
As far as your radar detector, it may help sometimes but if you speed enough, you will get nailed. Don't drive crazy and you will not get nailed. I like Lidar because it is accurate but requires line of site. Now we have photo radar and it is very hard to detect.
As far as winning in court, most cop are prepared and do this every day. I have only lost 2 hearings in 15 years. Most troopers are so experienced and know all the requirements that you should consider your options carefully.
I rarely get pulled over and never ID myself. I have only one ticket and I deserved it.

The problem with photoradar is that issues a ticket to the license, not necessarily the correct driver, am I correct? Obviously pics of drivers can have accuracy problems.

By posting a bond, you can (at your discretion) either come back later to fight the ticket or go ahead and pay the fine by mail against the bond that was posted.By paying immediately you must sign a document whereby you are (legally) admitting guilt.
There's nothing complicated about this procedure or illegal either. RPITA? You bet it is.
It's also practiced by various (usually smaller) jurisdictions around the country as regards non-residents. Nothing new either. It's been going on for a very long time.
Radar detectors are useful, but they don't guarantee you will get away with speeding .....
I flew into Chicago on business a while ago ... and the plane out of SFO was WAY late ... so when I arrive my last connection into Madison WI was long gone. UAL offers me a free hotel in Chicago but the morning flight into Madison will get me there much later than the start of the meeting I'm flying in for.
So I grab a rental car and head off to Madison. At first I'm doing like 65 MPH with the cruise control set, but after an hour or so (it is now like 2 in the morning) I'm falling asleep and there is no one on the road ...
So I'm bumping up the cruise control from 65 to 70 to 80 to finally 90. I come over a hill, it is pitch dark in every direction (I'm somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin farm country) and suddenly I've got cop lights behind me .....
He was a local sheriff ... sitting to the side of the road, and he had me nailed with his radar gun. He pulls me over, sees my out of state drivers license, and tells me he's taking me to jail unless I can pay the fine on the spot .... I ive him my VISA card, he radios in my VISA card data ... I am not kidding .... and as I'm signing the VISA card receipt and ticket this MF local yocal has the audacity to tell me to "protect" my credit card data ... after he has just broadcast my info across who knows how many counties ....
Again, as far as I'm concerned ... LEOs are tax collectors protected by a gun and a badge ....
If you were going 90, you deserved a ticket. After reading most of these posts, it seems that some get offended because the LEO's catch them when they are speeding with a radar detector. I'll admit it seems like a big game. I drive 60k miles per year, and alot of the miles are during late night. I do not drink or speed. I don't need tired drivers meeting or passing me going 90mph, that is just not smart. What am I missing here? Anyone going 90mph at 2am will get stopped in WI, just to see if they have been drinking. Another thing, the fee charged because you were out of state was merely a deposit. If you are so sure you are right, then take it to court and you'll get your money back.
DMoore, thanks for holding back on this one, I think if you had started to write you may not have been able to stop. Your area of the state has alot of these speeders and sometimes they crash before you can correct their behavior. I'm sure you have had to clean up the unlucky ones.

My complaint was two fold ... First, he broadcast my credit card number, with name and expiration date PLUS my driver's license info ... name address, DOB, etc. .... on a FREAKIN open radio frequency. If he had simply written down the info and processed it when he got back to a "secure" location to process the data, or if he'd even demanded that I follow him to a location where he could have processed the data, I would not have had a problem with it.
Second, he has the nerve to tell me I should "protect my data" as he is tearing off the flimsy copy and handing it to me ... (he had blanks in the trunk of his patrol car, including one of those old zip-zap machines to take a card impression ....ya think he was prepared to play this game?)
Up to them I had been polite ... courteous ... respectful .... BUT at that point I almost lost it .....
The ONLY thing that saved my *** was remembering the Ron White (comedian) story about the time a cop said to him "you have the right to remain silent" and as Ron said .... "I may have had the right ... but I didn't have the brains ...." I kept my mouth shut.

If you think your detector is protecting you from "instant on" radar ... you are living in a dream world .....
Usually the first time a radar detector tells you an "instant on" gun is in use is when it just clocked you ....
Hello , cops are stupid, but they are smarter than you are ... they can/will beat you at this game ..... "instant on" radar is very difficult to beat ....
They detect you coming down the road with your radar detector spewing signals towards them so they know you are looking for cops. Thats when they like to hit you with the instant on and nail you.
Then there was the radar instructor who told his radar certification class of following detector owners at night with his lights off and blips them randomly to see the brake lights come on.

Not much you can do about it. If they have 'personal goals' (quotas are not allowed) and it's near end of month, they'll be more active. Some (speed trap) cities live off of that revenue, so the judge (part of the city) won't care if you are right or wrong.
Also the 'law community' favors those it is familiar with. If it's 'some first time in the court joe blow' vs. 'Dave who's been here before', Dave will win.
Just because they claim you were measured by laser, it doesn't mean you were. If you did ask to see the display, the speed displayed could be from anyone and could be an old measurement.
Plus there are cops who are just ticked at the world. I got a 56mph in a 55mph ticket once and the judge dismissed it.

1988 Just outside Lamesa Texas. 77 in a 55. Follow me. We arrive at Alsups convenience store just inside town. Why don't you go inside and purchase a $45. Money Order and put it in this postage paid envelope and drop it in the mailbox. I don't have it. Put your hands behind your back. WTF? Umm maybe there's some cash in the glove box. Suprise, there is.

November 2007 Brevard County Florida. 85 in a 70. That's a beautiful car. How fast will it go? Dunno, that would be Waaay illegal to find out. Well sir can you afford $187.50? Yes, but Christmas would suck. Well slow down and please watch your speed. Thank you for wearing your safety belt.
Now who says Cops have hard ons for Red Sports Cars?
Of course, you could always drive a Porsche since they can't keep up!

I live here in cow country - last job was a PD - they do have secure radio, so they can talk to dispatch, other officers without being heard. Sadly, we now live in a world where criminals listen to scanner apps on their phone...and would just stay right ahead of the officers.
So...secure radio was born. They don’t stay on it all day - but one press of a button, and only dispatch and the few officers that may have it turned on can hear them. We have had it for years here. Listen to a police scanner sometime - when it sounds like you’re only hearing one side of a conversation...the officer is on secure. Hear a dispatcher say “FYI, you’re on secure”...officer is transmitting things the department feels shouldn’t be secure. Hear an officer tell another to “go to secure”...he wants to that officer something he doesn’t want the public to hear (like the location of a suspect). If you’re by a scanner that has a light that lights up with transmission...lights on, you don’t hear anything. Someone’s talking, and they don’t want you to hear it. I hope that makes you feel better.
