I have run into a problem doing an install for the LapTrax. The instructions say to locate the accessory power connector above the BCM. I have a 2004 Coupe which I purchased new so there should not be any modifications to the electrical system in that area. I am now wondering if GM changed or eliminated the connectors in 2004 and is why I can't locate the rectangular connector in the picture in the instructions and on their web site (laptrax.com) which looks to be about 1/4"x3". Can anyone with a 2004 confirm if this connector exist and I am just to dumb to find it?
I just installed mine on my 2000 vert... The connector was there, but a bit hard to find. You want to look for the yellow and black, and I think red wires that are a bit heavier gauge than the rest. They were coming out of the upper dash area, and the connector was hidden, but I found the wires. there's only 3 or 4 wires on the harness.

Thanks IM28702. I just went out and looked for those wires and still could not find them. Can you tell where do the wires you describe go to after the connector?

I think you may be right - I seem to remember there being some issue with hard wiring radar detectors in '04's due to a change in the Aux Power setup (as in there isn't one!). I think a couple of owners wound up wiring their RD's off the power going to the rear view mirror.
Again, I'm only vaguely remembering this (I can smell the gears smoking )
Thanks DT for the link and info. Sadly it looks like they did away with the power connector for 04. Guess GM saved a nickle on that one. Now does anyone know what I can do at this point besides sending the LapTrax back?
Yeah, sorry it wasn't better news - you might ask about this in the stereo area of this forum as well. They seem to know a good bit about the electrical system and where you can tap power.
The LapTrax is pretty neat, I've got one in my '03 (still had the Aux connector so the install was like 10 minutes).
The only thing that the aux power does for me that you unfortunately miss out on is supplying a close power and ground. I assume that you should be able to supply a switched power source (yellow wire) and a ground (Black wire) to that area, and you should be fine. You can most likely piggy back off of a fuse in that fuse box, or at worst, chase a wire feeding the stereo. I don't have a wire diagram to point out exactly which wire it is, but should be easy to find.
Thanks guys for confirming the lack of accessory power connector. It makes me angry that LapTrax does not acknowledge this in their instructions. I read them before I ordered it. I e-mailed and sent a pm to them yesterday and am waiting for a reply for them to advise me on what to do now. Glad I did not tap into wires before I got to the power source step. I am somewhat color blind but felt comfortable with identifying the wires after reading the instructions but going fishing for another power source/ground makes me very uncomfortable.

You can buy the little fuse adapters for this purpose at many auto parts stores. They just plug in. Just use a test light or DVOM to verify you have located a switched or non-switched power to the fuse you want to use before hooking up. If you don't have a test light or meter, you can do it the trial and error way too. Very easy.
Yes, it is the Deluxe model. As I understand the only difference between the two is the blue wire that goes to the DIC for resetting the display. I did not remove the knee panel and look at the DIC connector for the blue wire.

Thank you LoneStarFRC. I may drop by the parts store if I decide to keep it. I guess I also need a ground source.
I installed a LAPTRAX last week on my 99 which has the AUX wires. I had no problem with that. However I spent 45 minutes looking for the blue wire as per instructions. I wasn't sure which blue wire was the correct one. If you find it great, if not here is what I did. With the knee bolster removed I could see the connector that contains the blue wire and connects the DIC switch. To gain access to the plug I had to removed the ignition switch. I then pulled the plug. made the splice, connected the plug and replace the ignition switch. Total time was 10 minutes and I knew for sure that I had the correct blue wire.

Good luck
Wow Doug thanks. Any special tools to remove the ignition switch? The instructions make it sound so simple but it's been a real PITA.
When I did mine, I found it fairly easy to get to the DIC switches by removing the radio bezel. Quick and easy to remove, and leaves lotsa room to get in there (and I have some big paws). Plus, the knee bolster comes out easier with the bezel removed. Just be sure to takeout the two screws by the ash tray so you don't break the bezel. There's one screw next to the cig lighter, and one behind the ashtray, then two nuts under the AH/TC panel that just pulls off. Whatever makes it easy for you, maybe the ign switch is a better way to go, but I feel that the bezel removal should be in the instructions. Also makes it waaaayyyyy easier to run the blue wire across the dash.
Whatever you do, don't give up. I LOVE my Laptrax. That and the HID's are the mods that make me the happiest most often.

Reason: spelling
I don't remember there being 4 in mine, but the wire that I used was very close in color to the blue wire on the laptrax. If I remember right it was the third from the bottom....
