The sensor does not know what kind of tires you have. All it is doing is measuring the air pressure inside a pressurized compartment (to wit, the inside of your tire). If you could inflate and seal a trash bag around your wheel, it would still measure the pressure.
Bottom line, switch the sensors to your new wheels (make sure you locate them the same way as they were originally (i.e., RF to RF, LR to LR) and use whatever tires you want.
i am looking to purchase zo6 wheels and tires for my c5. do i have to run runflat tires? if not what will the display on the dash say? thanks
I went with the non run flat Michelin Sports and I never told the Tire Pressure Sensors a darned thing! The only thing I told them was that Daddy Dan-Na was taking them out for a drive to Costco! They'll do fine and if you go with the non runflats, you will always know BEFORE you get a flat. Just pick up the following:
1.) Inexpensive Air Compressor with a cigarettte lighter plug-in.
(mine was $14.95)
2.) Tire Plug Kit
(mine was $8.00)
how do the sensors mount, what do i have to do to motorsport z06 wheels to make them work? thanks for reply's
Very simple - there is a nut that is threaded on the valve stem. Loosen it and you will free the sensor from the wheel rim. If your car is a 97-00 model, you may want to change the o-ring on the stem.
so the sensor is external from inside the tire? do they have to be reinstalled on the wheel before the tire is mounted? thanks
Sensor mounts from inside of wheel. Valve stem sticks outside. Yes, you do want to re-install sensor on wheel before tire is mounted. It's pretty easy.
