Okay, i am following the LS1 how to directions. The part where you disconnect the steering shaft coupler says the 13 mm bolt comes out from the bottom of the car. Well, mines on the top side of the car.Is something wrong here?
1 more question. The steering fluid lines that need to be disconnected, are they the 2 on top of the rack itself or the 2 that are connected to the steering gear box? This is all i have left to do before it comes out.
The 2 on the steering box, and yes they are a PITA.
18mm flare wrench is a must to get them loose. An open-end will likely slip and round off the hex fitting. Once you do get them loose, a short open-end will be more helpful in getting them undone.
When I installed my Maggie, I had to pin the crank, so had to remove the rack too. I loosened the four big bolts on the font sub frame, and then pried the sub frame down by sticking the pry bar between the frame and sub frame, which allows the rack to slide right out. With one of the front tires off of course.

Reason: wrong terminology
Here i am again. Trying to get the lines unhooked.I bought a 18mm flare wrench, the only one i could find was chinese.Im afraid the nut is going to round off,i cant budge them.I dont know if its the cheap chinese wrench.Do you think a better wrench would get them off? Any tips on getting them broke loose?
I picked up a flair wrench from Autozone and could actually see the jaws moving apart as I pulled on it.
You may want to try removing the PS bracket to give yourself some more room. It should only be 3 bolts, if I remember correctly.
Also, try to get the top (looking from the D-side fender well) fitting off first. This will provide more room for the second one.
I bought mine at auto zone also, and you are right,i saw the jaws moving apart too. Looks like a trip to sears this week. The closest sears to me is 45 miles.
If you are careful you can get them off with a standard wrench..that's what I ended up doing. Keep in mind the PS bracket was removed, which gave me more room.
