Ok here we go. I will try to describe everything as best as possible. Car is a 1999 C5 Coupe with 64,500 miles and auto trans. Car has Column Lock Bypass installed. Started off by switching from MPH to KPH on it's own. Switches back and forth randomly by it self. At times the switch will not work to switch back to MPH. Sometimes it will. I installed the CLB myself amd never got any "service column lock" messages. Recently started getting service column lock message as well as "pull key and wait 10 sec." message. When I pull the key and wait the message to pull key goes away when I re-insert it. However when I start car and put it in gear to drive away it sometimes shuts off. Car is all original except for SLP loudmouth exhaust. No clue where to even start. Some suggest dash cluster others suggest body control module. I know there is a vast amount of knowledge on here about these cars and your help would greatly be appreciated.
Sounds like the CLB has failed. Some were good quality and I hear that others have failed on people. First you should check the state of your battery which is more likely to cause issues.

OK. Cleaned ground contacts and replaced the battery with a new Optima. Still having the display switch from MPH to KPH back and forth on it's own. Also still getting the "service column lock" on the display even though the CLB is installed on the car. Does anyone think I may need to change out the dash, or could this be the body control module? Please help with any input. Do not want to get raped at the stealership!
Took the whole dash apart today looking for the culprit. I think I may have narrowed it down to the switch panel on the side of the dash when the dash starts acting up I tap on it an it stops. Ever heard of this?
Yes I am reffereing to the DIC controls. Anyone ever heard of these going bad. They work intermittently when they want to then all of a sudden stop working. Seems like there may be a short on the E/M switch. Can this part be replaced or do you have to replace the whole dash. HELP!!!!!!!

Don't know why the CLB would cause random switching from standard to metric. BC is da man when it comes to things C5 electronic, but my guess would be towards the instrument cluster itself.
The DIC controller can be replaced by itself, however you have to remove the cluster to get to it as its screwed into the cluster from the rear. I was thinking the CLB may have a problem due to his original posting...maybe he should put it back to normal and try again. As Runamuk mentioned, this might be two problems rather than a single cause.
Anyone ever heard of a DIC control going bad? What is the part number for this part? CLB was working fine. Started acting up and displaying "service column lock" message when I disconnected the positive terminal from the battery and later re-connected it.
