Default Head & Cam upgrade

Ok I have looked thru the archives & there are a lot of threads on this subject but none have answered my questions.

I am looking to add some HP to the rear wheels. I don't want turbos or blowers.... My wife asked my if they have that high pitched whinning sound. I said yes & she informed me that she can get that sound from most upgraded rice burning vehicles. She wants that sound of a pop & crackle idle that only a v-8 with a cam can give. She loves the pacecars at WOT so............That brings me to my question.....

What is a good head/cam set up for a rattleing idle & extra power? I know that a head with 61degree chamber or less will increase compression ratios but I have no idea what lift/duration cam I would need along with what type of head I will need. 3 angle-5 angle- size valves, springs, if roller rockers and roller lifters are better or what?????
I don't want a ton of maintence or hard to drive on the street & I am leaving the bottom stock.

Thanks for your responses......

How much do you want to spend? Also, where are you at in Indy?

I am on the west side of Indy. As far as $$...I really don't know. I have seen heads from $800 to $3000 & cams from $200 +. I do not know about the rest of the things needed........lifters (will stock work?) Will stock rocker & push rods works?

I had a dyno tune done last Sun. & the #'s are 336.0 RWHP @5300 rpm & 361.3 # of torque @ 4400 rpm. How much should I expect from a cam & heads?

Julian,
I appreciate your willing to quote me prices but there is no way I could get my car to you. If I shipped it & had it shipped back, the extra $$ spent shipping would negate the $$ saved on your services.

There are a lot of good heads/cam combos out there, and you could easily pick-up 80 rwhp with the right combo and still have good driveability with the right tune.

The best thing to do is to fine a couple of respected vette tuners in your area and talk with them about what you want. You might try posting in the regional sections to get some tuner recommendations.

If you don't have headers and a after-market catback exhaust system you should consider that also.

The only thing I have is Corsa pace cars & a twin cone intake. I am the second owner & those are the #'s. That is what the tuner said. I also have 3.42 gears with a A-4. My tuner said that some one has changed the gears because they didn't offer 3.42 gears with an A-4 in 99. The original owner took the car to the dealer for every oil change battery problem ect. I dought she.....yes she had gears put in. I have the build sheet but I don't know how to read it. Some said I might have one of those "fluke" LS-6 installs because they had problems keeping up with LS-1 installs. I never heard of that but those are my #'s. My tuner ran them twice after his tune just to be sure. While the computer was still "learning" the 1st run gave 323.4 RWHP @ 5100 & 354 RWT at 4400 rpm. Then he readjusted the air fuel mix from 12.8-12.9 to 12.3-12.5 & the #'s above were posted. I have no idea how but my buddy had his done & with a 02 M-6, he only made 304RWHP & he has the same intake but corsa touring exhaust. I was also asked about my exhaust because of the pop-pop while the engine was decellerating as if I had headers......none. I am confused as to why but I will take it.

I have an e-mail into LPE, Exotic in Ft. Wayne, both have not returned yet. I thought I would try to educate myself by asking here.

If you want that rattling rough idle sound and the car to shake a bit at stop lights, look into a G5X3 by LG Motorsports. I have this cam and your description of what you want is exactly what this cam does.

It might be better to give us a ring, Bobs computer is acting up as of lately ( ) .

We deal a various assortment of cylinder heads and do custom camshafts, depending on what your looking for as in drivability and horsepower goals, we can figure something out that would best suite your needs.

I'm using my stock heads that have a mild port and polish and have been milled down to 59cc combustion chamber(0.060in milled off). I had to flycut my pistons in order to achieve a comfortable piston to valve clearance. I do not know any specs of other heads so I couldn't tell you if you will have PTV issues. I do know that the cam will work with stock heads and valve placements with no PTV issues. I would call LG Motorsports and talk with them about it, I called when I was doing research and they were very helpful.
