For those of you who do not want to locate your radar detector on the windshield this is an idea I stumbled upon last night. IF YOU OWN An XM satelite receiver, the snap which connects to the rear of the unit, it's about 3 inches square, fits perfectly into the defroster grill below the windowshield on top of the dash. There is an area there that is also about 3 inches square. Simply valcro your detector to the part from your XM receiver and set it in place and your ready to go. Check it out it's a perfect fit.
Bill, How do I retrieve my pic's from a folder to this page???
- Go to Photobucket and sign up for an account (it's free).
- Upload your pics to Photobucket from the folder on your computer.
- When you want to add a picture, go to Photobucket, and choose the button that says "direct link" and copy that.
- Back in the forum, click the landscape button and paste the link that you copied from Photobucket, into the box (see pic)
- Click OK
- Thats it
Is that a Bell 980??? Man, I love that voice alarm. It's so much better than listening for beeps or tones on the V1's or 8500's.
With regards to the first recommendation to mount it on the dash, although it may be convenient, you will get the best performance from the radar detector if you mount it as high as possible like the Bell next to the rearview mirror. Radar detectors work on line of sight so you may be risking a ticket since you will be reducing your range and hence your reaction time.
[QUOTE=dcd58;1562837601]This location works great..It's high so the detector works best and concealed from the outside, Plus nobody will see it unless they are in the car!
except that alot of radar detector manuf say that window strips cut the effective range
I would bet that it being 18 inches or so higher would = out any loss from the strip of tinted glass. Looks a lot better up next to the RV mirror with no wires anywhere. Thats where I have my V1. Only thing better then next to the rearview is taking it apart and running the sensors in the front+back of the car... but even then I'd still want the display up by the rearview. It's just a spot your used to looking at and sorta hides it from cops + thieves.

Don, that's where I have mine hard wired mounted, high on the windshield except it's on the drivers side rear-view mirror, never thought of putting it on the passenger side. Might look into moving it over a bit. Good idea, I'm running an 8500X50-blue and have gotten good results with the high mount.
Very nice Looks Great
I have a mirror mount with my V1 and this also works really good.
The mount is from great lakes trophy and the connection is to the mirror connector using a cable from invisicord.com
Not a good picture but take a look savage1
