hey guys, Im at the part in my head install where Imputting things back together and I was curious if I put the new lifters in the trays or just drop them in their holes? Thanks
Yeah, when I replaced mine, I couldn't figure out which direction the oiling hole went. The GM manuals don't say a thing about it either. Now, almost three years later, I simply don't remember which way I did them.

I guess you can do it either way but I put the lifters back in their bores. Then I put the trays back in place on top of the lifters. I was afraid the lifters would drop out of the trays on my way back to the motor, with my luck.
As far as the oiling hole, I was told either way and that it did not matter since it was not mentioned there was a correct way in any of the manuals.
Did you replace the trays? I did and the lifters were nice and tight for re-installation. I also didn't want to risk re-using my tray with a "10" on it.

What are you referring to? Was there a problem with some trays?
Drilling the holes in the trays, allows the oil to drain back into the pan sooner. At high rpms a lot of oil is pumped to the top of the motor. The holes let it drain back, before the lifter cups are filled to overflowing.
Some of the trays that had a "10" on the bottom had issues with the lifter angle and the heavier valve springs scrubbed the roller on the lifter and took out the cam as well.
No, I didnt replace the trays. I did inspect them though and they looked fine and so did my stock lifters. My new lifters fit nice and tight so I think they will be fine
