Default Do I need a new balancer (pic inside)

I noticed a little balancer wobble the other day on my 01, and did a search to find this is a common problem. If you look the pic of mine the rubber is the same all the way around except for one spot it dips in.

Does this look like it is separating? Car only has 50k....

thanks,
Jeff

The wobbling crank issue is fairly common. But if left untreated, it can DESTROY your motor.
Pull the pulley, and correct the problem. Or it can get very bad.

Go to LS1HowTo.com and download the really good blow-by-blow instructions on pulling the crankshaft pulley. You will need a full day and a six pack at your house garage to do it right.

TTT

Found that summit poducts also has a underdrive balancer that is pretty much the same as the SLP unit. I'm thinking about picking it up due to the fact it's only $160.

New Era carries the Powerbond, very nice setup. Its on sale right now too. The Powerbond also has a key milled in it so you can pin your crank with the ATI kit and never worry about it slipping or coming off again.

We see these alot. Very common problem & if left alone will destroy your engine.

TSP had a pretty good deal on their underdrive pulley. It is a Powerbond as well.

Easy replacement and worth it!

Becasue if it falls off you'll wish you had sprung for a new one!

You might want to do a Underdrive while you are at it! Just a suggestion! = a couple few extra HP's!

Thanks,Matt

While the balancer is off, you might as well just pull the water pump too, the timing cover is a few more bolts, pop off the cam gear and retainer plate and slide that cam out! Pulling the rack and the balancer is the worst part of a cam swap, and since you will have that done you might as well just go for the gold!

I ordered a summit racing 25% underdive balancer (only $160) and a factory bold. I haven't tried any of summits new product but the specs are dead on with SLP and for a $100 difference I'll try it!!

I'll post up one I get it in!

Alright I'm about to start this in the morning. I haven't picked up a cam and am still on the fence about it. Would a 02-04 z06 cam (springs, retainers and everthing) be worth the trouble?

The SLP pulley is all steel and presses onto the crank easier than the tighter fitting aluminum hubbed pulleys.

If you're gonna change cams and want it to retain ALL of the driveability and want stealth like the ZO6 cams, buy the Lingenfelter GT2-3. It is pure stealth and has more lift, but still allows you to run the Yellow ZO6 springs. I made over 400 rwhp with it along with a set of ported 243's.....You can find it at http://www.lingenfelter.com/Merchant...Category_Code=
