now what?? today on the way back from lunch i tried to roll down the passenger window and nothing. got back to my office and turned the car off and hit the switch, no operation. there is a clicking coming from passenger side of dash (probably a relay??). i had an auto glass installation business for several years and i understand how power windows work, so i don't really need help on that end, however, being that this is a vette and everything is tied into everything else what should i look for?? tighten the gas cap maybe??
by the way, 98 a4.
i also started a thread about a rattle behind the dash and the heater not working properly......any connection??
Its the relay. Strange as it sounds, if you give it a sharp rap above the speaker it'll clear it and probably start working. Its only a temporary fix though.
If you search for the thread on door modules by Bakersfield you'll get all the info you need.
If you do a search, you will find window failure is a common problem. I have replaced both window regulators on my 04 Z06. When I got them out, the motors looked fine, no frayed drive cables, they just quit working. In my case, it was not a connection or anything else. As soon as I installed the new regulator assembly, the window worked immediately.
Some have blamed weak relays in the door control module, but most of the time, that is not the problem.
My passenger side window quit without any warning. The driver side window made a gravel noise one day, then it would only roll half way up, then it quit completely. I could hear the window relay clicking, the window just would not work. A couple of times, I was able to bump the door panel and get the window to work, but eventually, they will fail.
thanks, guys.
i called my buddy who was a GM tech (and who i got the car from) and he told me about hitting the door.
alas, no dice. i'll just have to get a regulator.

Don't go that route just yet...the door thing only worked for my '01 once and the door window quit again. So, I took the panel off to check connections and everything looked good. Then I read a thread on the forum and I guy mentioned 'percussive maintenance'...just a quick smack with the handle of a large screwdriver on the very end of the moter itself. Worked like a charm and has worked fine since! It probably also helps that I 'exercise' the window at least once a week to keep the motor from sitting too long...winter is usually the problem.
I also used to think that the windows quit working from non-use, so I started rolling my passenger window down everytime I drove it.
It worked fine for a month or so, then one day, it would not work at all. Took the door panel off, and tapped motor, checked connections, nothing worked.
Replaced the regulator, and it works better than ever.
Beating on it and wondering everytime you try to roll the window down if it will work is not worth the aggrivation. Once they start to mess up, it is just a matter of time before they fail completely.
yeah, i know that i need to replace the reg/motor assembly, but $$ is tight right now with a new business.
the motors have windings that wear out. i guess i'll just have to pull the panel and see if i can get it working. i don't really need it right now since it's only in the 60's now....brrrrrr!!!
