Did you have the crank miked? I have seen out of round journals be passed right over by a machine shop. On a crank that they polished no less. An OOR journal will cause an engine knock after only a few hundred miles. It wont spin a bearing but it will egg one out.
At this point I would be looking at a complete tear down.
BTW, I would also increase the top ring gap .003-.005. Better too loose than too tight when it comes to top ring end gaps. ESP with hypereutectics.
We like .002-.0025 on street motors (rods no more than .002) but may go a little looser on our race motors.

I can't confirm weather it's a knock or valvetrain til I get good oil pressure first. Many members have reported engine noise from low pressure and it had ended up being valve train. What about the loss of power.. Does anyone have an explanation for that? I showed the compression test results and they all checked between 190-211. The leak down checked good as well with 5% Being leaked into the crankcase . So what gives? What do you guys think?

It probably has been said already but it sure sounds like a spun bearing!

my buddy had his do this and it spun the bearing and ended up with a cracked piston!

Please prove me wrong! My best to you!

Thanks,Matt

How could you have not cut the filter open yet? (It takes less than five minutes!).

Then you can breathe easy about possible lower end issues and/or solved your problem (assuming you see bearing material in the pleats). Or should I say at least know for a fact what your dealing with. A spun bearing is the last thing you want to confirm but it happens. As others have stated, your clearances are a bit too loose as well.

Go to a good parts store and buy a filter cutter....they work great and everyone serious about their engines should own one to moniter their condition.

Good luck....

Tony

Precisely.. I don't own a filter cutter...

Update:

Following Tony's suggestion, I went and cut open my oil filter and found most of my bearings in powder form laying right in there.. Millions of gold particles, some the size of small flakes... I guess I won't be posting much for a long time to come.. With the holidays around the corner and all these damn bills catching up to me, it will be a while.

To all the guys that posted, I appreciate your help. And to Chris at ECS, thank you for your offer over PM, I will definitely give you a call and hope you remember me when the time comes..

Right on Tony We keep one in the shop & it gets used regularly. Reher Morrison sells a nice billet one, but you can use a cut-off wheel in a pinch. Just clamp the rolled edge of the filter in a vice & cut it as close to the rolled edge as possible. Don't wory about the debris from the cutting...it will be silver & you are looking for copper/brass color in the pleats themselves.

Oh, man, I'm so sorry to hear that. I can totally relate to how you are feeling right now. I'm the guy that crushed a piston with a washer a while back...
We're lucky to have such a good shop like ECS close by in Jersey. They will take care of you. They did for me.

Sorry to hear that it is worse than originally thought.

I know how you feel, my vette has been down for 3 years now, long story

Time to send it out to a machine shop and get forged rods and pistons. I would also have them check over the rest of the motor as it seems unusual to have spun a bearing unless something was really out of spec.

Yeah,, I remember reading your post and seeing all the damage that little washer caused. How did you make out in the end?

The thing that bums me out the most is that I spent all I had to spare on that motor and have nothing left to build or buy another one or parts for that matter. Thats why I know it's going to be a while..

It will be a while, but it will definitely be a built new motor..

I appreciate your offer, but in the mist of sorting things out I had ordered a new one.. Thanks again.

Your offer is greatly appreciated it, but I'm no financial position right now to deal with this issue.. I'll be able to see where I stand after the holidays and decide then what my options are.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H-BEA...spagenameZWD1V

If you call him to order it, he will knock off a decent amount on shipping.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...spagenameZWD1V

Reground with bearings to match it, so all you'd have to do machine wise is have the cylinders honed to a 3.9035 (for a 3.903 piston), check the mains, and knock new cam bearings in.

This is all of course when you are able to spare some change.

I've seen this setup take a 225 shot for a season (so far) without an issue.

Just something to think about to brighten your day..... a built motor for about a 1000 dollars

No problem. Sorry about the bad luck. It really sucks this time of year. When you're ready, post or pm, I've always got good pull outs. If you're interested.

I don't know if it will help, but I've got a good stock crank, bearing caps, and bearings, and umm 7 pistons if you want. I see you're in Jersey, just not sure where OB is. I'm in Bergen County. If you want you can drive by and look at the stuff. Consider it a donation. I was going to sell the crank and caps, but I can 'loan' you this stuff for a while. I even have a new eighth piston with pin, rod, rings, and main bearing. It's taking up space in my cellar. I cracked the old block, so I'm getting a new shortblock from a source for my 'back to stock' build.
