Default Cam and A4

I'm planning on installing a large cam (heads as well) in my A4 equiped c5 this winter. I'm not sure how large but certainly a .600 lift and probably around 230 duration at 112 sep. I plan on installing 3.42 gears or better with a minumum of a 3200 rpm stall. However, I'm not sure if I will attempt that myself in my garage as I only have jacks and jackstands which would make the installation a pain. My question is...will I have trouble getting the car to run with the stock converter? If I don't install the converter myself I'll have it done first thing in the spring...but if I can't move the thing....

What do you guys (and gals) think?

I have h/c package and 3.42 install that I did myself and have not done a converter yet, it is not a problem at all.

What size cam are you running?

Also I don't have much experience with computer contolled cars but to keep my chevelle running in drive (and I have a 4000 rpm converter in the car) it would need to idle at 1200 rpm which would cause it to idle at like 1800 in neutral. The "jolt" I got when shifting it into drive was something I don't want to experience in my corvette. With the 4000 stall it wasn't as violent as it would be if I was running a more "stock" converter. Can I program the car to increase its idle when in drive so that I can avoid that jolt from neutral to drive? Any thoughts?

Driving with the stock converter with your heads/cam package or driving with the high stall converter with heads/cam package should notbe a problem, you would obviously need tuning w/shift points, etc., changed.

The reason why I suspect there might be an issue is because the stock converter has a stall speed of approximately 1200 rpm and, of course, this is a peak stall speed. If I run a cam that causes the engine to have difficult time running at 1000 rpm I would suspect it wouldn't run at all when under load (in drive). I don't think what I'm looking at for a cam is all that big (600 lift, 228-230 duration, 112 sep) and I do plan on changing out the converter early in the spring but if I can't keep the thing running it might cause me to change my plans. I was hoping that someone running an A4 might have some experience with a similar situation.
