Hi everyone,
It is time for me to replace my brake pads on front and rear and I'm looking for recommendations. My 2000FRC is a daily driver year round in NY. Do you guys prefer any particular brand for this type of use? Bonded vs Riveted?
I use Hawk HPS on my '73 Corvette and my Miata that I autocross. I think they are a good compromise between an aggressive performance pad and stock. They do dust when used hard, but not excessively in my opinion.
On my 2000 hardtop I went with EBC Green Stuffs to try them out. I would consider them comparable to the Hawk HPS and ZO-6 pads and have been very pleased with them. Dust is not bad, but then I have the gray ZO-6 wheels so they barely show dust. I believe that GM painted these wheels gray for a good reason...

If you want to do a little upgrade while you are at it, StopTech makes a very nice Stage I kit that includes Hawk pads, stainless lines, and Motul fluid. There is also a Stage II kit that adds all four slotted rotors. Stage I kits are $299 and Stage II kits are $699.
OK so I've been looking at the Hawk brakes and I want to know if in my situation I would see any benefit to getting the HPS type over the Performance Ceramic type. Remember it's a daily driver that gets into stop and go traffic.

For street use and virtually no dust. I will replace with the Quiet Stops again if this set of pads ever wears out. I personally have had great luck with these pads. Reasonably priced as well.

Can't believe no one suggested these. They are great for street driving. I use them, very little dusting and it is light in color.
Z06 pads dust like crazy.
For street use, you can lock up your brakes and invoke ABS with practically any pad, you can't stop faster than this. Now, for track use, you need a pad that won't fade with repeated high speed braking. These pads usually take warming up to maximize their performance and are a BAD choice for the street.
I have nothing but great results with HAWK pads on the street and track! Depending on mileage you might also consider changing your fluid as well or adding the stainless steel lines while you are in there! Hope this helps you out!

I see people upgrading to the Z06 pads at a minimum, anything else is something like Hawk street pads.
IMO, stock pads all too often get sold short. If you've been pleased with the performance of yours and the way they perform for you, I would recommend sticking with them. The search for something "better" is often not worth the extra expense, given the manner in which the car is being used.
HTH
I DD my 2000 FRC on LI also and changed to Hawks. Very little brake dust compared to originals. Stops fine. Just was sick of the dirty wheels and the Hawks solved that problem very well.
What ever you do, do not use ceramic pads. I have the GM ceramics on now. THEY SUCK. OK for for normal driving. But if you use them hard, they will fade big time. Worst mod I have ever done. I will be installing Hawk pads next.
