Default water pump replacement.....

I might need to replacement my water pump. What is involved with this install? Is there a lot to breakdown to get to the water pump's location?I had a mystery noise in that area around the pump. There has been no fluid leaks, but I had a loud noise that clinged and clanged for several minutes. I do not believe it was engine related because I attempted to isolate the sound and it was not the motor. The sound did disappear but for several minutes a loud cling clang was like two surfaces in contact or a sudden stop and start.

With no leaks evident, look directly below the water pump and make sure its not your harmonic balancer (pulley). This will be directly under the water pump and just behind the steering rack. Water pump is fairly straight forward if that turns out to be the problem. I would also check tensioner's including the one for the A/C compressor which is somewhat hidden but under the compressor on the passenger's side.

But if it turns out to be the waterpump, its a VERY easy swap. It can be done in less than an hour. Its 6 10mm bolts.

GM designers did something right on that one. Easy to get to.

Hey, the 688 was just a generic one I came across, even though it IS a pic of a fast attack.
After doing more searching, I came across the pic of my actual old boat (602), not just a generic pic of a 598 class. Since the pic was undated, for all I know I was actually onboard when it was snapped.
