morning all,i have a problem with my 2000 coupe.in the morning when its cold i start the vette and the starter does not disengage until the vehicle warms up.where do i start, starter?ingition? any techs out there? thanks in advance, brian
1. you need to determine:
A. is the starter still electrically energized after letting go of the key
B. is the starter drive just sticky, and staying on the flywheel
2. place a meter on the windshield so you can read it from the driver's seat. connect the positive lead to the coil of the starter solenoid or start pin connection. Connect the negative to a convenient engine gound.
3. start the car, and let go of the key. if the meter is still reading voltage, you have a starter circuit problem (ignition switch, shorted wire, etc.
4. If the meter goes to zero, and the starter is still dragging, you need a new starter drive. It could just be contaminated with old oil, dirt, etc. or it could just be worn out.
5. If you need a new drive, you will have to determine that you don't need a new starter. It is convenient to get a new starter, but it costs more.

When you state "the starter does not disengage until the vehicle warms up"
Do you mean,, you turn the key and get NOTHING (no starter motor rotation) or does the starter run but NOT turn the engine over?
