Hey Cf members,
I'm getting bored this winter already.. I want to insulate my car now. What is a good type of material or brand to go with. I will also be adding a thermal plated tunnel plate to help with heat. I will be doing this myself. So I will look up "how to" on here but if you want to give me any advice I'm all
Thanks Bg
if neither of the above; there's plenty of products available; One of our forum vendors sells a pre-cut kit; then there's always Dynamat Xtreme; D'Amplifier Pro (highly recommended).

Very good ideas . The pre-cut Frost King is from Crazy Cowboy. For the aftermarkets, here is some good reading...
Thanks for the responses. I think I will be using mikes writeup to do the install. I look at some prices and some things were just way too much. I think I will stick the the frost king product.
thanks bg

FK will give results, but keep in mind it's the least dense of all the products out there.
If you drive a mostly stock vehicle; sans a loud exhaust or high-power stereo upgrade... FK will give results.
I installed frost king on my 98 coupe & my 02 ZO6! It did a really good job of reducing road noise and reduced some of the heat soak through!!! I also installed some reflextex (silver bubble wrap) ai strigic areas around the tunnel and that made a significant difference in tunnel heat!
I went with RAAMaudio. I think the entire job (sound dampener and deaden) cost just over $300. Here is a link to the site and the link I posted when I did the work. Hope this helps
I was looking around and I want to add the frost king but I always want to help with heat. Would it be okay to add one layer of frost king or equivalent and then add a second layer of this http://www.secondskinaudio.com/therm...t-wave-pro.php
for the heat? Would this make it to thick for the carpet to fit or would it be alright? Thanks again
so the carpet is just pulled off? or what? im asking because on the side of my car its kinda un glueing just wondering what kinda glue to use to put it back on. its on the driver side by the gear

You should have plenty of room for FK and the heat wave. Both compress without too much pressure. If you stay around the tunnel only, with the heat wave, it will be cake. You really don't need that much heat barrier anywhere else, but it would be a bear to get the seats back on the bolts if you had both products down around them.

I had no adhesive under my carpet (throughout the entire car). The FK goes in with 3M 90 adhesive spray or equivalent. The carpet just lays on the FK, wait until the adhesive is good and dry. If I understand your loose carpet question properly, it just stays in by the compression provided by the trim. The carpet should be stiff enough to stand up and then retained by the bezel around the gear selector/radio.

If you are referring to the cardboard backing they always seems to come loose. I reatached mine with the spray adhesive that came with my RAAMaudio.
All the carpet is pressed molded and it basicaly comes out in the shape of the area that it is in. It is NOT glued in and I would not glue the FX in. Home depot and Lowels both sell tape that will properly hold the stuff where ever you want it. Hell,,duct tape is good enough!
Dont put the FX or reflecttex between the seat and the tunnel. It will make the fit toooooo tight, Just cut around the area where the seat cushion will sit in all seat positions. (Its a fairly long area).
As for your cracked carpet backing, if you wanted to salvage it, you could glue some type of heavy duty nylon or jute fabric on it. Most sewing/fabric stores sell stuff that will stiffen it up. Then just glue it on the carpet.
If you want some cheap, easy, effective soundproofing - just stuff your three wells in the back with 4 inch thick house fiberglass insulation (sealed in plastic garbage bags). Because of the location and shape of those wells, they pick up and amplyfy (sp?) a lot of road and exhaust noise.
I then got "fancy" and put in "coned foam sound insulation", cost about $40, weighs less than 2 pounds, looks better, BUT really doesn't perform any better than the fiberglass. It is all in the above post.

This is just what I am looking for....
I let my C4 sit out in the rain for 2 weeks while doing some work in my garage. Needless to say I did not know my top leaked. All the factory insulation is ruined.....
