Default Need Tech Support for my new C5

I just bought a new to me 2001 Vette. It has a few of the common issues that I need to address. First is the grinding noise from the headlight gears, where is the best place to order the brass gears? How difficult is this job?
Secondly, when I'm running the temp is around 195, but when I stop in traffic, it goes up to 230. I this normal??
Also, the LED display for the A/C controller stopped working, now I don't know what function the heat/cooling is on. Is there a fix for this?
Lasty, how do you adjust the headlights, mine are pointing up to jupiter.

I absolutely love this car, I just made a 3000 mile road trip from CA to LA!! I will post all the pics and describe the awsome adventure in an upcoming thread. Thanks, Jeff

First, the grinding is a common problem. I had the same problem. I did a search for the gears on the forum and it was from a guy that sells them, I just don't remember his name. His kit is real nice. I believe his first name was Dick(Maybe??). As far as difficulty, if you are mechanically inclined it is not real difficult. There is a sticky in the tech section I believe with pictures.
Second, the temperature going up to 225-230 sitting in traffic is normal. Mine runs at about 190 moving, but climbs up in traffic the same.
Third, the headlight adjustment is on the headlight assembly, but you have to remove the black surround to get them. Be warned they are known to break with the slightest bit of pressure. Use some WD40 or something like it and spray the units and give them time to free up before working with them. It can be a pain, but with patience you can get them adjusted.
The A/C unit is also a common problem, there is a lot of information on this in the Tech section, you will have to remove it form the car and do some solder work on the control board. Sorry if that is not much help.
I hope this information helps, and if you do some searching in the tech section, you will probably find even more information.

For the heating up issue, the temps are normal unless you are running the HVAC, then they should remain fairly constant. You are probably over-due for cleaning out the garbage in front of the condensor. You can buy an air-wand from Harbor Freight for like $4.95 or you can fabricate a 1/4 inch copper tube to garden hose connection. Either way, blow out the rocks, blowing/spraying forward between the radiator and condensor. Its been said lots of times in this forum that the C-5 is like a vacuum cleaner for small rocks.

Just curious, how did you navigate a 3k road trip with headlights that don't focus on the road ahead?

Thanks for the info, I love this forum. I popped out the control unit for my A/C and made the repairs as described, and now I have a bright display. Also ordered the brass gears for the headlights and will make repairs soon. I found the simple round removable disc that hides the headlight adjusters and pointed my headlights toward the road!!! I could see OK with the lights on before, but now I can see good. It was a real issue when I encountered thick fog and noticed that the lights were pointed way way up off the road.
The only issue I have left is the coolant temp. I did a test today and noticed that both cooling fans turn off when I turn off the A/C. Turn on the A/C and both fans come back on and the temp falls to around 195. Is there a relay somewhere that I need to check and replace??
Thanks, Jeff

When the HVAC is off the fans will remain off till the temperature hits the programmed temps...I think...that fan 1 comes on at 225 and both fans come on at 230 or 235. They can be reprogrammed to come on earlier with software.
