The problem lies in the fact that everyone uses LS1howto.com for removal and installation. That web site is just wrong and has lead to many guys screwing up their crank threads. I made my own tool and have posted photo's of it ad naseum but many still continue to try and use a bolt to install the pulley and it may appear to be OK but upon next removal watch out. Here is the installation tool I made, have used it several times and it works like a charm.

Vettenuts is right on. I have 618Hawk's installer and it works like a champ. I also have the factory install tool that can be had on flebay for about $25 and it works great also. I don't understand why people continue to use an old bolt.......

I made my own tool with the help of Vettenuts, got all the parts from ace hardware for about ~30.
