I've seen these before, and I've always been a little puzzled by them. It appears that instead of removing a simple little bolt and letting gravity do its work, these devices cause a lot more work. I also would think that they would not allow as quick a flow, which would probably allow more dirt to remain in the engine. Bottom line--I wouldn't spend the money. :nonod:
I purchased one of these extractors in order to draw out power steering fluid, and other reservoirs that do not have drains. It does work well, however I bought mine at Boats USA, and paid about $10-$12 less that Griot's.
I have one from Griot's but it won't work on my C5 or my Tahoe because the tubing it too big to fit down the dipstick tube . I have used it on my lawnmowers ands woodchippers with great results. After sucking out the oil I removed the drain plug to see how much came out. Only a few more ounces came out of the drain plug hole. Overall, I would say it is pretty handy.
Be careful using these! If your engine is too hot the tube will melt into your oil pan. It happened to me a number of years ago on my Trans Am....I had to pull the pan to get the melted plastic out, what a mess.
