I have a 2001 model w/LS1 that I'd like to make some HP mods to. I was thinking of going with the LS6 intake, but was not sure if this model already has this intake. Do the 2001's come with this intake? How can I tell without removing it from the car to see if the bottom is flat? The only mod I have now is a cold air package, any other recommendations for improving HP without getting too invasive?
the 2001's are supposed to heve the same intake for the ls1/6. you should be good to go. i put on a ported/polished throttle body from shaner. some say yes...some say no to this, but i say yes. also try to get a dyno tune, but if you are contemplating headers, then tune after the install.

Well that kinda makes the Z06 guys feel "not so special" doesn't it? 2001 was the first year for the LS6 in the Z06 only. Not sure where you're getting your info......
To the OP... If you are not the original owner, and suspect that your intake has been changed, check the numbers cast into the plastic on the intake itself, they should be : 12561184, or 12573572 if it is an LS6 intake. The number can be found on the drivers side of the intake manifold between the two middle injectors.

that would be #12561182, and 12573572, and the Ls1 of 2001 and latter did come with the Ls6 intake, that is why there was a 5 hp increase from 2000 to 2001.

If you read more closely, you will notice that Sleazy is talking about the INTAKE, not the entire engine, and he is correct.

but my part number is on the passenger side.
Part Number Cast Into Manifold May Not Be Listed Below:
97 - 00
12557846 use 88894095 (Current Number to order 1997 - 2000)
01-04 May be any of these numbers:
12561184 use 88890523
12561184 use 88890523
88890524 use 88890523

Hey, we are talking about an INTAKE MANIFOLD, right?? I am!!
I'm planning on doing this swap as well. (my 97's intake is in pitiful shape)
I've noticed the LS6 manifold has a flatter bottom which accounts for it's larger volume.
My question is: How does the LS6 intake's larger overall volume result in more power over the LS1?
The motor is an air pump......the more air in and out.....the more power we have. Of course, there is always a limit, but the early 97-2000 computers will adjust the fuel and timing etc. for the larger LS6 manifold with out any expensive tuning on a stock engine. However, if you're doing a heads and cam replacement, the LS6 will work even better, but you'll probably need some dyno tuning to make it all work together as a "team". Just thowing hot parts on your motor isn't always the answer. You'll know when your gas mileage goes down the drain.......but some guys don't care. I do. My lightly modded '98 runs like hell and still gets 30mpg on long trips.
the ls6 intake flows better of course. get it. You should check a junkyard for a wrecked 01-04 vette and just take it off there. Probabbly save you some cash, but you should get a ported FAST 90 with a Ls2 throttle body
you obviously haven't talked to George Bush or Hillary Clinton. (and the can of worms is officially open now)
30mpg is average hwy for me too....as long as i can keep my foot under control.
I'm not sure where i'd find a junkyard with a wrecked newer model car.
Yeah, I know..........but I meant 30mpg in a Corvette capable of 170mph ........not some little green dickweed car!! You know what I mean, eh??
Try ls1tech.com or corvettemechanic.com for some manifolds. There are actually alot of them out there in cyberspace if you start watching all the sites.
