After having relocated the OPSU, has anyone had any sending units go bad. I've replaced THREE freaken sending units, and I'm thinking about doing the relocate procedure now. I'm sord of mad at having to go through all that trouble every time it goes bad.
Yeah, relocating is my next move, but what I'm wondering is as to how many sensors have gone bad after they have been relocated? I've already found threads that show the parts needed to relocate and how to do it, but I'm still not sure as to how many of the new relocated sensors have gone bad...
There is a long thread at the top of this Tech section that talks a lot about the oil pressure sending unit and possible relocations. I too did the relocation to the fuel rail and so far, there have been no more problems.
the thread on top talks about the relocation, but I'm thinking about usin copper for my relocation. I saw another post where a guy used copper or ss tubbing, so that is what I'm going to use.
I have more question???
Are the reading of the new relocated sensor the same as it was when it sat on top of the engine?
Are you guys using the same Corvette oil presure sendin unit, or are you going with the Buick sensor, or the standard part numbers PS-401 AND PS-308?
I'm one of those who used copper due to my concerns with the oil temperature vs plastic tubing with lower temperature thresholds. Simply put, copper was a lot safer than taking a chance of the plastic melting. I did not notice a change in PSI readings. Some people like to cut holes in the upper shroud area therefore easier to replace it in the normal location. I wasn't willing to do that. I don't remember anyone having issues with the Buick sender other than you have to do a little more adapting. I'm using the normal one. I tend to suspect that the failure is casued by a poor design which we all are pretty sure of but adding my own idea that it may simply be too much heat there, for that design. I'm using a PS-308 at this moment.

If you want to go the extra mile, I believe summit racing and others offer stainless steel lines. Flexible like the nylon hose and more durable than copper.
That should help you find all the parts you need for a nice stainless steel line relocate. I used the Buick sender since it's copper and so far so good. Much easier to replace should it fail now that it is easily accessible and tucked away from sight under my driver's side fuel rail cover.

Just a reminder to those doing (or thinking about) the relocate: Make sure to use plumbers tape on the connectors or you WILL get a leak. This is only nessicary on the OPSU and adapters, not the block side of the hose.
I did the relocate with copper tubing & Buick sensor couple of months ago. Do use plumbers tape for sure, I forgot to do some of the threads to the combo under FRC & figured it'll be OK. Yeah, right. Oil all over driver's side head, exhuast & onto garage floor.
Works great, no more problems, but a little quirk. Buick sensor reads approx. 10-12 lbs higher at all rpm than stock sensors did. And I had 3 sensors replaced in stock position. Was expensive to have replaced, really glad I did relocate.
I used thread sealant instead of the tape, but should get the same effect I believe. Some others argued about which is better but the conclusion seemed to be the thread sealant.
