As far as I know NO it will not. The C5 trans is rear mounted and connects to the torque tube and rearend.

Another thing to consider is the lengths of the input / output shafts.

Without going into great details,it will NOT work. The differences are case, input shaft, pump stator support, shifter shaft lever,pan,etc.....

why do they call it the same model number then ?
or is the C5 tranny a different part number than the Camaro/TransAm ?

The internal workings are basicly the same, but as Rodney points out...that is the end of it.

I wasn't disagreeing; just curious as to why the part numbers are the same. I doubt that they are... how would GM differentiate between the two if the part numbers were the same ?
I'm thinking the "4L60E" is not the actual part number... just a series.

This is correct and what it does is enables the Vette front to rear weight ration be in better proportion.
Equaling the superior handling we get from our Vettes!
GM had this is mind when building the C5 Vettes so that it be a superior product over it earlier years
Thanks,Matt

and adds rigidity to the frame (via the torque tube).

Correct. 4L60E, 4L80E, are series numbers by the respective manufacturers, NOT GM part numbers.

Actually, the "L" stands for longitude configuration (RWD). A 4T60E would be for a transverse configuration (FWD).

I thought it was for lockup...
The 4L60-E derives its designation from its specifications: 4-speeds, Longitudinally positioned, 6000 lbs. GVW, Electronically controlled, although the transmission sees factory service in trucks up to 8600 lbs.
