I happened to notice the other day that my odometer has stopped functioning the trip meters still work, and everything else that would be mileage based in the DIC still works but the odometer just stays at it's existing mileage. Any ideas?
The diagnostics in the Shop Manual are rather long winded
To put it in a nutshell:
Measure the voltage from the vehicle speed sensor to ground (9.6v)
Test the VSS circuit for a short or high resistance between the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and the PCM
Inspect for poor connectors at the harness connector on the IPC and then at the PCM
If all that fails its an IPC change.

Best of luck
or you could just check to see if the speedometer works. It all comes from the VSS.
If your trip mileage is working, then the IPC is getting VSS data correctly as that data is used to update the mileage of the odometer and the trip odometers.
Sounds like your odometer function has quit working, and the IPC will need to be replaced. A dealership can replace the IPC, but even dealers cannot program the correct odometer reading into the new IPC. I'd recommend you contact directly a service center that can update the new IPC for you. Here's one that I know is VERY good ...
I'd call them first and talk to them about the problem and what they can do .... possibly they can order the IPC from a forum supporting parts vendor (gmpartshouse, gmpartsdirect, etc.) have the IPC sent to them, and then after they program it, ship it to you. Notice on the HOME page for paspeedo thee is a link to a PDF form you will need to fill out/sign for them to re-program the odometer.
something else to consider I recently installed an Avic D3 ( I had to tap the VSS signal from the back of the cluster), I'm not positive it quit right after the install but I noticed it a few days afterwards.
I noticed today that the car slow to crank, I took the battery to have it load tested and sure enough it had a dead cell. I replaced the battery and what do you know, the odometer begins to work again. Chalk another odd issue up to a bad battery.
My advice to those facing electrical gremlins with their C5 is to first check the battery.

I've heard of many different random electrical problems when the battery starts to die but thats a first
