Lump you together? Get off your high horse cowboy. These are the common points of failure for someone with 100k miles on their car.
High horse? Cowboy? Did you get a burr under your saddle or something? WTF?
It's my opinion of course, just as you have yours, but I think most of the problems you read about here are common among required repairs but not common on all Corvettes. You make it sound like there's some other brand that goes 100,000 miles without any maintenance. I believe the original poster may have been concerned about more than an oil sending unit or his thermometer reading. I just wanted to set him straight that he has no worries any more than any other brand. As Evil Twin noted, these cars are very well tested but by their purpose, they are also very well abused by comparison to a Camry. (I have my original oil sending unit and thermometer, thank you).
Talk to Dave, CTSV OWNER. He has a 98 vert with almost 240,000 miles on it. Yes, I said 240,000 miles. He was on a cruise with us last weekend, and the car runs great. Don't worry about a mere 57,000 miles, cause it's just getting broken in.
I had a 2006 Nissan Frontier truck with 30,000 miles on it. 3 days ago I drove by the car lot and saw a 2000 Corvette with 57000 miles on it in great shape for a great price.
Well, all those curves and all the power and all the beauty of the car made me crazy and I bought it.
The thing that bothers me is that the car has 57,000 miles on it. Is this pretty high miles for a corvette? What are my chances that this call will live to see 150,000?
Thanks for your opinions...
You made the right choice
57K is barely broke in -
With the Mobil 1 the LS rings wont even seal good until around 30K. You keep that oil changed and you can have one heck of a time for a long time. Just remember the harder you run it the more often you should check the oil. Enjoy
Thanks for all your posts guys! It is obvious to me now, that I didn't make a mistake. I think I hurt her feelings by even posting that question, so I am posting these pics of her to make it up to her.
I'm the guy with over 300K on my '99. Your car will last for a long, long time providing it was properly cared for to start with and providing you continue to care for it. Don't abuse it and expect it to last forever but drive it normally with a little fun in there of course, oil changes per the DIC or more(cheapest stuff you can put into any car with the greatest benefits) and take care of any issues that come up. Actually, mine is at 303K now and still going up all the time.
Great thread...I worry about putting miles on the Vette. Toyota and Mercedes love to tout their high mileage cars. Chevrolet needs to take your story and make an advertisement on this.

Bought my 2000 vert in 2004 with 38k miles. It now has 62k miles and still runs and drives like new. I plan on many, many more miles on this car. Drive it and enjoy it, they are great cars and will go forever if their taken care of.

My '99 FRC rolled over 139,000 miles on the way to the dyno last Thursday night. It still has enough compression to lay down 380 rwhp and 376 ft*lbs. I have replaced the cam, oil pump timing chain, valve springs, & intake manifold but only because I wanted to.
I have a 01 coupe that looks like yours. pewter, except black interior, hud and 6 speed.
I bought it almost 2 years ago with 22,000 miles on it, and it has 37,000 miles on it now.
The only things other than oil and coolant changes were the backup light switch and the addition of techron to fix the gas gauge. It runs good, and to enhance the power, I changed little things like spark plug wires, and plugs, O2 sensors, air filter, and keep it clean, keep it waxed, and armor-all the tires.
When I bought it, it used 1 quart of oil every 1500 miles. The machinist where I get some of my engine work done said "drive it like a granma for 2,000 miles, those rings never got the chance to seat".
I did, and voila! no more adding oil.
I can even get into it on occasion, and there's no oil in the breather tubes.
Treat it well, treat the leather often, and it will become a great car for you.
Hi guys. I'm resurecting this old post becuase I found a 1999 vette with 130,000 miles for $9999. It has brand new tires and from the pics looks ok. Th owner says the paint is good and he has changed a slew of parts. he also stated it doesnt burn oil and shifts properly (automatic). is this a good price at $9999 negotiable? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Even if he did make a mistake, it is water under the bridge now, so why not welcome him to the forum and if there are problems down the road we will hopefully be able to give some advice.
I think you misunderstood what I'm asking. Im looking at a 99 vette with 130,000 miles for $9900. Is that too much for a car with that kind of mileage? Would I buying a money pit? If the car appears to be well cared for, is it a good deal?

why did you bring back a 3 year old thread when you could have started a new one. bad form and against the rules if i remember correctly.
