Default Removing AIR system

I have my car apart for Heads & Cam; and I was thinking about removing the AIR system. I know that I will need block off plates for the headers, and need to have the tuner delete the codes.

Is there anything else that I need to do / consider?

Thanks!

Nope...you mentioned the important stuff.

All else that's needed is to remove all the tubing, disconnect and remove the pump.

Just make sure the AIR pump in fact is not running at all at start up--I blocked my system--re-programmed comp so it would not come on--deleted enablers--but still the pump would turn on--Finally had to unplug the elec. pigtails on the pump to make it stop-

What's wrong with it still running even though it's not hooked up? I still have mine in place, but not hooked up to my headers. They're blocked off.

Nothing really---just didn't want the noise or for it to pump against a dead head and burn up so it could be re-connected if wanted and work

The block off plates you can make yourself. When the tuner turns off the air injection system, make sure they do both the primany and secondary air injection systems or you will get a check engine light in a week or two.

Are you taking the Cats off?

Could you describe the function and related DTC's of this "primary air injection" system?

I had to set 5 "secondary air injection" system DTC's to not report. They are:

P0410
P0412
P0418
P1415
P1416

Did that over a year ago, and no MIL has appeared since. My AIR pump and related plumbing are physically removed from the car.

A quick check of all the DTC's listed in EFI Live, and I can't find anything that refers to a primary air injection system.

I am not sure about the primary, that is what was turned off originaly, then I had a check engine light and took it back to the tuner and found the secondary, once that was off everything was fine. He used HPTuners on my car.

How do you set system DTC's not to report? Do you have to buy a programmer? Or use a laptop with the proper software and plug?

Yes, you need tuning software (EFI Live, HP Tuners, LS1 Edit, etc).
I think the handheld Predator will do it too, but not certain.

good luck with the block off plates. after a while , with the extra weight and no support, they crack the headers open. yes it happened to me and many others.

with the extra weight of the block off plates hanging off the headers , the vibrations will crack the headers open. when the air system is hooked up, that part of the headers is supported

Maybe on the passenger's side, but the driver's side has the check valve and tubing bolted up to it. That would have more weight putting stress on the base welds of the fitting.

Anyone else have blockoff plates and issues with their header welds cracking??
