Default New-bee question

I want to get under my newly purchased C5 to look things over. How/where do you jack up the front and rear?

Also, front is too low for me --- any adjustment to raise it up about an inch or two

Thanks

I need to get the C5 repair manuals --- where do I get them --- from GM

Sorry for the dumb questions

Not dumb questions at all. Just the fact that you want to obtain a service manual for your car speaks volumes (no pun intended). You can get a service manual from the dealer; however, they are available on ebay and for sale in the parts section frequently.

Has your car been lowered? if not, I would not raise the factory ride height.

There are four SPECIFIC jack points on a C5 on the rockers. They are easy to find ( oval slot in the rocker) . While there are many here that will tell you to use a block of wood, or a hockey puck, there are jack pads made specifically for this purpose. Typically, they are made of machined aluminum, and come in different configurations. Just do a web search for "C5 corvette jack pads". Yes, the aluminum jack pads are more expensive than a block of wood or a hockey puck, but you didn't by a Corolla, you bought a vette. It deserves the best.

If you just want to get your car up a little, Rhino ramps work very well, provided you remove the left and right air dam extensions ( fours bolts a piece, and five minutes time).

Good advice from Lucky. The machined pucks are from Elite Engineering and are a quality piece of engineering

I use Rhino Ramps and just a piece of 1x2 to get over the first lip, otherwise the air dam pushes the ramp away.

Here's a pic of the jacking points:

I just got my first C5 also, here's what I did to get my car up. I used 4 2X12's about 1.5' long positioned in front of each tire and pulled the car onto these. This allows enough room to get a jack under the front and back of the car. I used a 2' 2X6 on top of the jack and placed it across the rear crossmember, jacked the car up, and placed jack stands at the ends of this 2X6. Remove jack, repeat on the front end.

You bought a corvette and you're complaining about it being too low? I think you're forgetting you didn't buy a truck. Hug the turns with your low CG.

Sorry for the dumb questions

I use these ramps from Ecklers

Race Ramps, XT

Ideal For Corvettes With Lowered Bodies Or Custom Front Spoiler
Extra Long (67")
Lifts Car 10" & Is 14" Wide
Holds 1500 Lbs. Each
Lightweight Polystyrene 1-Piece Construction
Race Ramps are ideal for Corvette enthusiasts with lowered bodies or custom front spoilers. They allow you to get under your Corvette quickly, safely and without any frustrating hassles. Constructed in one solid piece, unlike many car ramps. Race Ramps will not slide across your garage floor, dig into your asphalt driveway or scratch your painted floors. They will raise your Corvette 10" and you never have to worry about rust. Another beauty of XT Race Ramps for Corvette owners is that they will accommodate tires up to14" in width. Race Ramps are lighweight, easy to transport and they are supplied with straps for easy carrying and you can use the straps to hang them on the wall when you're done. So when you need vehicle ramps that will work for cars with low ground clearance front ends, turn to XT Race Ramps.
