Default Stock throttle body operation?

I have a 99 FRC.

Put an LS6 intake mani on and was cleaning everything and noticed the throttle body, at rest, is not actually fully closed.

I can push the blade in so that it is fully closed and you can see where there's an dirty oil line of where the blade opens and closes.

Is this normal or outta adjustment? Can you adjust the blade position on a throttle body?

But...I am assuming with the motor running at idle there's a vacuum and really...the blade then fully closes....

Just wanted to ask to make sure, thanks!

I am no engine genius and but if the blade was closed completely then the engine would not have any air to stay running.

Normal.

As explained to me by Mark Shaner when you turn the key the PCM closes the blade then opens it to a fixed angle for cold start. I believe that sequence also establishes the initial zero position for the throttle position sensor.

If you had alot of oil in the old manifold, you might want to install an oil catch can.

Wonderful, great responses, I love this forum, makes total sense!

Oh yea and I am also installing my Blackwing and Elite Engineering PCV catch can, too. I gotta keep this new LS6 intake mani clean! ;-)

Does it hurt the Throttle body if you move it by hand. In other words if I move it to check for dirt will my car be okay, or do I need to do something special so it goes back to where it was?

Thanks

No,,,NOT AT ALL!! I push mine open and clean the underside of the blace and the TB housing. Just let it go once your done and it will flop back in place. It will NOT shut tight. Like vettenuts stated, the PCM determines the correct opening upon initial key on.
