A4 Transmission operating range?
Driving back from Kennedy Space Center (liftoff delayed) My transmission temperature was 199 degrees, air temp about 83 Does anyone know the normal operating range or maximum temp the transmission fluid should be at?Thanks in Advance!! :cheers:

I think the max is about 220 degrees--at some point it the DIC will reduce engine performance to prevent damage. 199 degrees, however, is fine.

199F is fine. I see between 210-215F with a trans cooler and higher stall converter. Oh and the engine won't reduce output to curb trans failure. I cleared "TRANS OVERTEMP" frome my DIC a few times while roadracing in Topeka. When I cleared the DIC it read 270F :eek:. I parked it after that.

I'm thinking/hoping the "max" is a good bit more than 220. I've seen 210-218 during some spirited driving in a '98 with A4 and 2:73's. Also same with new fluid.
