I found oil filter magnet for sale on *-bay.
Can this be a good idea instead of having magnetic bolt? To me it does not play any role where those small nasty particles are collected, as far as they will be collected from the oil. This could be even better than magnetic bolt because if oil is changed by GM or by others, who probably use suction pump to remove used oil, and then replace the filter to new one.
Only thing that could go wron is that someone forgets to replace the magnet when replacing the oil filter
What could go wrong with this small invention?
Here is what they wrote in their ad: Oil Filtering Magnet attracts even the tiniest particles that can cause wear & bearing damage. Before these particles can affect the rest of your engine, they are stuck to the bottom of your oil filter. At oil change time, simply transfer magnet to new filter for thousands more miles of protection.
These filter magnets are made by Performance Choice they are 2.5" in diameter by 3/8" thick. They weigh in just under 6 ounces and trust us they are STRONG.

Reason: Additional information
This gets asked about once a month. If you search this forum (in the red banner) in C5 Tech, using keywords "filter magnet" or similar, you'll find the past debates, err...discussions.
Many, including myself, think it's cheap insurance.
Others would rather spend their money on other widgets. It's your car to do with as you please.
I prefer to use a FILTERMAG (mounts to the side rather than the bottom) on my cars because it's my car to do with as I please.
I found the same thread. It is placed under C5 General - forum.
Is seems that some belive it does not work based on non-ferrous unpurities in oil but I agree with DeeGee and you that it is too cheap to just ignore.
Especially in my case where my FRC does not have magnetic plug.
I have one and, as Janfun says, I'm in the "Cheap Insurance" camp. It will probably never catch anything in its life. If it does, it paid for itself a hundred times over.
