Default cam selection?

hey guys im looing for some suggestions on a cam. currently the car is a bone stock 99frc with 59k miles.
i have ordered american racing long tubes 1 7/8 and have a ti exhaust here to be installed with the headers.
i will most likely do an ls6 intake with the cam install.
my goal is good drivability with great sound. im not planning to take this car all out. i want decent power but drivability is going to be important.
i am considering one of england greens cam packages.
thanks!

I Just went with a GM stage 2 cam, 227/239 .551 lift 108 LSA along with Z06 heads and LS6 intake-because the cam will work with Z06 springs and the light-weight valves. Will be tuned the 22d. Figure I saved by not buying springs/retainers/kit so put it towards the price of the heads. Should have good driveability with a nice sound at idle (I like a choppy idle!) I'll let you know how it tunes out and drives.

I'll suggest Stephen's "monster" cam as a good moderate-to-slightly aggressive cam for a typical street car.

Should have real good manners/drivability, yet still sound pretty tough.

Have you spoken to EG??????

If he is going to sell you the package and do the work (?????) why not talk to him first, then get other opinions if you feel you need to.

(Unless this is what you have already done but didn't say )

Seriously though, Stephen will guide you in the right direction.

Good Luck

The suggestions that I would make are make sure you understand what you want from your car. Choose a cam that will get you there, and maybe go one step larger. That will save you the agrivation and expense if you are paying someone else to do the work, of going bigger in the short term. I have the Vengeance VRX5 but I have other mods as well.

Good Luck

That's what I have in my 99 FRC (which just happens to have about the same mileage as yours). With 5.3L heads, L6 intake, and longtubes, I'm putting down a conservative 410whp, and boy is it fun. Lots of low-end torque, and plenty of power. If you are **** about idle and driveability, you may not want to go much bigger. Here's my writeup on my impressions, an idle clip through longtubes/Z06 Ti catback (we have basically the same setup), and my dyno graph.

I have a 224/228 581 588 114 with TFS heads and I put down 423 RWHP before the other goodies.

It is a reasonable cam from Comp Cams and has good idle qaulity and great HP and TQ!

Thanks,Matt
