Default Automatic climate control display fading out

The digital display on my automatic climate control module in my 97 is on the fritz. It is fading in and out (out for the most part of course). Seems like a loose connection between the board and the display. If I tap on the display, it usually comes back on.

GM says a new unit is $900 and I'd sure love to avoid paying that much when a little wiggle or solder would probably fix the problem.

Is it easy to get this out and take it apart to fix it (I've got friends with electronics experience)? Has anyone dealt with this before? Any better ideas?

Thanks
Keith

There have been posts on this same issue. I had mine fade in and out for awhile then stopped working. I bought a used one from Roger Carter for $100. When I looked inside the damaged one, I couldnt visually see anything wrong.

I have detailed instructions on the swap out from another CF member if you are interested.

I am very interested in your swap out details. Could you please direct me to them or email them to me?

Also, does anyone know if a 2000 year climate control module will work in my 97?

Thanks a lot.
