I ordered some rotors and pads(Hawk ceramic) from a forum vendor. Do I have to get some type of hardware kit to use when installing the front pads?
Normally for street use the ceramics are the best for good performance and clean wheels. If you're doing track days Carbotech pads are the best in a Panther + or R8's.
As far as your question, the pad guides should be clean and inspected for any excessive wear or hammering. The later can sometimes happen in racing situations. NAPA makes a great little kit including the pad guides, rubber seals, and lube for the guides. Your Chevy Dealer does not make it. They also have a high temperature silicone grease tube that I keep finding uses for. This stuff is great in racing in the rain applications as if wouldn't wash away from the exposed pad guide. Make sure you bleed the brakes and check your dust seal for any heat damage or age cracking.
Also go pickup a tube of threadlocker. I had a caliper come loose. after talking with my tuner he said they ALWAYS use the stuff on the 2 bolts that mount the caliper to the bracket.
