Default Any pointers on replacing the front seal?

My balancer went bad so I am replacing it, I noticed that seal was leaking a little bit and the flange on the balancer was a bit scored when I got it off. I picked up the seal but am trying to figure out how to get the old one out without damaging the crank or timing cover. Any suggestions?

You may be able to rent a seal puller from Autozone. The new one will press in by hand so its only removal that is the issue.

Did you remove the front cover from the engine? You have to remove it on order to pull the seal and install the new one.

I would think he could get it out without removing the timing cover as long as he is careful. Otherwise you have to remove the water pump.

If I'm pulling the timing cover, it's getting a cam. Don't make me do a cam

If you are that far in you have to do a cam.

The stupid water pump is like 6 bolts and two gaskets. If you are this far into it you might as well do the cam. I did. Now I didn't have to replace the front seal in mine. I had to replace the entire front cover because the original one got trashed when the balancer failed.

The only real work a cam adds is changing out the valve springs. Actually removing the cam and stabbing in the new one is no big deal.

If the rack is out and you have the balancer off, and you DONT do a cam... Turn in your man card.

Hey I'm just throwing it out there. If you go to all of the trouble to pull the steering rack, yank the balancer off and remove the water pump, you pretty much have to pull the TC off to get the seal out (its easy, plus it makes installing the new one a breeze. You need a hammer and a block of wood) and you DONT take out the remaining 6 or 7 bolts to slide the cam out, you are officially a PANSY!!!

YEAH THATS RIGHT I'M CALLING YOU OUT!

You got this far and you're not going to put a cam in?
