When I first got my car (a little over a year ago), I had a few issues with shifting into first and reverse and popping out of first.
But I soon realized that the problem was "driver error." I just needed to think about what I was doing each time I shifted into first or reverse, making sure the car was in gear.
All is well now.
In general, the 2000 seems rather difficult to shift (somewhat heavy and stiff), as compared to an 07 or 08.
But I like the solid feel of shifting a 2000.
My car wont go into reverse with the engine off, or it will and it is difficult, engine on it goes in fine no noises or anything. Sometimes at a stop it stick going into first like it wont go past the shift gate shifting into 2nd then first or jiggiling the shifter solves the issue.

I think I know what you're talking about. I always shift into reverse with the engine running when I park my car, so getting it into reverse isn’t a problem.
I'd say 99% of the time I can get the car into any gear without a problem, but once in awhile I do have to "fool with it" a bit.
But I’m very satisfied shifting my 2000.
I’m still learning to shift from first to second while keeping it smooth every time. As you know, those gears seem to have more than a descent amount of torque, so shifting smooth can be an issue for some new Corvette drivers like me.
I have always thought that these transmissions were the smoothest shifting and most forgiving for performance cars. My set up in my 99 Z28 always was very smooth even with the B&M Ripper. I have had my 99 FRC for a month or so now, and it has taken a little getting used to again. I have popped it out of first and reverse a few times, but it certainly isn't the car's fault, I just wasn't putting it all the way in gear. Putting the RP fluid and making sure I shift into second then first helped the problem greatly.
