Default Compression Ratio?

My Vette feels very sluggish...i'm convinced that I have a collapsed lifter, which is fixable...(1 in 16 chance to find lol)

...what are the details to getting a compression ratio check? What is done? How much should it cost? What else would make my baby sluggish?

I have a stock '00, Borla Stinger dual exhaust is the only mod. Decent amounts of backpressure with her .

Looking for help

Define sluggish...

Collapsed lifter = loud tapping noise all the time. Your "feeling" sluggish could be a LOT of things: (how many mies do you have on it and is it a M6 or auto?)

Tune up ever been done?
Fuel filter?
Airfilter dirty?
Dirty MAF? (they sell the cleaner at the parts store)
Dirty Injectors?

Any codes?

I would start with the easy stuff, especially if there is no sound that would indicate a lifter problem. Lifter means head removal, big job.

Hmm..obviously do the basics...I have to get her a tune up and stuff .

No codes, but I haven't checked...I will jump on that.

A4. I HATE the shift points...it drops into OD wayyyyyyyyyyy too early and accelerating feels horrible like a kia spectra or something...

I'll shoot myself in the head if it's a lifter, but yes, there is a tapping noise all the time, it's very slight...i'm gonna go down the list of things to do before I have to deal with a lifter .

Before you tear it apart make sure that you are not hearing the normal injector tick. Get a cheap stethoscope form an auto parts store and probe each injector.

Get with a good tuner they can wake up the A4. You can set the shift points by the amount of throttle being applied. I would say write down the speeds you want each shift to occur at for 50, 75 and 100% throttle, then give this info to your tuner. I would leave the part throttle points the same. Also ask them to shorten the shift times.

Also, a tuner will be able to log what is going on with your car and may be able to tell you if some thing looks a little wrong.

Otherwise, follow the above advice

A "damaged lifter" will make more than a slight tick. I think you are fishing in the wrong pond. Start with the easy maintenance stuff and work from there, especially if there are no codes.

Thank you very much guys!

"A Tuner"? You mean someone outside of Chevy?

So i'm hearing that a damaged lifter would sound more than just a tick? Can you go into some detail if able? Ahhh..i'm off to the parts store for a stethoscope..

I think she needs a tune up pretty badly. I went and bought a "Shift Kit" by B&M. What do you think about that?

Yep, a tuner reffers to a speed shop type of person. In NY you should have a few good ones around. Its not cheap, but they can alter the shift points to where you like them. Ask in your regional forum for references... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=40

Good Luck with it.

Ahh, Vette. Gotcha. I'm guessing that the check engine would come on if it were a lifter? Any idea on what it should sound more like?

A loud "tapping" sound if it were a lifter, odds are is not, what you are hearing is most likely injector tick as vettenuts stated which is normal. Also upon start up when the engine is cold you may be hearing "piston slap" which again is normal and will go away once the engine starts to warm up.
