I just got my spec clutch today. Hoping to install it this weekend. Everything has already been disassembled, turned the flywheel, installed the new slave cylinder and the pilot bearing. I do have two questions in regards to the clutch.
1. In the pic below, what is the plate that is on top of the pressure plate? Where does it go?
2. Is it necessary to use the release bearing that came with the kit? I A new bearing comes already installed on the slave cylinder I put on. is there any difference in the two?
:EDIT: For future reference, this is the response i got from Spec:
If using a resurfaced stock flywheel, you need the shim and you need to have the pressure plate and flywheel balanced together. The factory pieces are not balanced individually from the factory like our pieces are, so when you remove the original pressure plate from the flywheel, the flywheel is then out of balance. It may not be enough to cause a vibration, it may cause a horrific one..so you pretty much have no choice but to balance the assembly.
That is a shim to go behind the slave, and the throw out bearing is the same as stock. I just throw them in the toolbox, since you should replace the slave when you change the clutch.
1. It looks like a shim for the slave.
2. I don't know the answer to that one.
Have it checked for 0 balance. My Spec Stage 3 was out of balance.

Thanks!. I did replace the slave. So the shim is not needed?
Check with Spec, but I thought it was but am honestly not sure.
PS: How did you make out with the pushrods, did it work out OK?
I'll call spec and ask to be sure.
I put in the 3.375, with hesitation since I was sure i would need longer than stock pushrods. I only had the car running for a few minutes, before I tore it apart for the clutch install. but I didn't notice any ticking or anything. What should i be looking for to know for sure?
According to Spec the shim is for F-body's only. I didn't use it and haven't had any issues.
Second the suggestion to have flywheel/pressure plate balanced together. My pressure plate was fine on it's own but when pressure plate was bolted on it was way out of balance. I'm sure it would have caused some serioud vibration.
I did not use the shim in my 3+ install and it's got perfect pedal height with a new billit flywheel. But in your case I'd check how much material was removed from the flywheel as this will move the pressure plate closer to the engine and the shim might help(possibly make a thinner one). To much shim though and the pressure plate might not fully engage as the TO bearing will ride against the clutch cover fingers.
I used a remote bleeder so ALL of the air get removed from the system. Just use the factory bearing as the others said.

Thanks for the warning on getting too close. i hadn't really thought of that. I talked to the shop i bought the clutch from and they said they always use them.
Just replaced my spec 3+ with the tex oz series. I loved my spec3 the only thing I did not like was the rattle that came with it. When I took it out only 5K on it looked like new never had a problem in reguards to operation. The tex has a softer pedal feel and I still have the rattle with the tex kind of makes me regret taking out the spec. Alot of work for nothing but peace of mind. I would drop that spec and flywheel back in if the tex does anything funny... Good Luck you will like your choice.

Thanks. I was ebating between the tex and the spec. Spec came recommended by a few people as being close to stock in pedal feel and engagement. The g/f will be driving it some, so it will need to drive somewhat like stock.
