I'm a new guy here (1st post) and I've got a few questions. I just picked up a 98 Convertible and I like everything about it EXCEPT that I want to dress up the brake calipers. I've noticed that some people have managed to paint/powder coat theirs and I'd like to do the same eventuall. Looking for suggestions on where to go and how to do this. (I'm from MS, but I'm down here in San Antonio, TX until March) Also, where can I find some nice chrome tips for the exhaust?
Still too scared to do any real mods yet. Only had the car for 24 hours. Happy just looking at it right now.
Welcome to the Corvette Forum, NoVector. :) The only thing I can suggest is to get on the Mall and check out the vendors that sell the kits for painting your calapers. There are also a ton of guys and gals on the Forum that have experience with this. I have not, so I'll check back to see if you get any good advice. :seeya
I just bought an 02 and want to do the same. I painted the ones on the back of my 90 to match the Grand Sport calipers I installed in the front. I took them off to do it. I am thinking that I might try some artist brushes this time so I don't have to take apart the whole brake system on a brand new car.
What type of paint options are out there? I'm sure that there is a kit or something. I want to do it right and have it look good and last. I'd prefer not to have to remove the calipers and stuff, but if that's what it takes to do the job right I'd do it.
Hey I have a pip by pip on how to do it, and the paint to use, i jsut did it myself, later tonight, or tomorrow i will load everythign up and post everything.
Painted mine black with yellow letters. If you want to see them, check my website, the link that says "Corvette Details". I used Rustoleum from the local Home Depot. You can waste a lot of money if you want the two part stuff that you will see listed on the forum, but the rustoleum works fine. Several other Forum junkies have used it with excellent results as well.
Also, anyone with Millenium Yellow, Rustoleum has a yellow that is almost a perfect match right off the shelf called Sunburst Yellow.
I painted mine gloss black with Rustoleum and used a razor blade to gently scrape the paint off the letters. Just use a small paint brush ( like used for painting model cars). No need to remove the calipers. It will probably take 3 coats to cover completely.Good luck. It's a very easy mod that will really make a difference. :yesnod:
Thanks for all the help with this. I'll go find some paint tomorrow and get to it. I'm still undecided on what color to go with, but I'm thinking that black with yellow lettering would look realy sharp with the black car.
Next thing, I noticed that a lot of your pictures show these nice chromed out tips on the exhaust pipes. Mine need to be replaced or something. It's a really nice touch that draws a lot of attention. Any suggestions for this?
BTW, This board beats the heck out of the last car forum I visited. Thanks for the help. There are some sweet cars posted here.
