Default Failed emissions / Check engine light

I failed emissions because the check engine light failed to come on...Anyone else ever had a problem with this ?If is a matter of replacing the bulb ? any help would be appreciated.

Default Dump the codes ......

You need to dump the DTC data to the DIC to see why you failed. A burned out bulb isn't part of the test so if we can fix the underlying problem, you will pass.

To dump the codes, if you don't know how to do it ....

https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...D=26&TopicID=1

Post the ENTIRE code (such as P1234C) ... Easiest to write them down once the display goes to MANUAL mode.

Post them here and we can figure out how to get you "smog legal" .... What state are you in ????

Default check engine light not coming on when key turned on.

I live in Tennessee...and we have strict rediculous emissions here. I have an 02 Z06 with the following mods only..
Lg long tube headers, x-pipe with cats, Blackwing Slp cold air intake.
I was throwing only 1 code...the ( PCM-10 ) i think this is has something to do with the mass air flow sensors..I cleared the code, but still no check eng light on when you turn the key on..which leads me to my next question....Is it just a simple thing as replacing the bulb on the rear of the guage cluster .....because someone said its impossible to get the bulbs for it..

Thanks

If, when the inspector shut the car off, and turned the ignition back on to visually check correct operation of the CE light, the car can fail even before being scanned.

This detail of the test seems to have come about in the past couple years, at least here.
With OBDII, they never even made you get out of the car, nor shut the engine off for testing, they just connected the cable, scanned, and if all was well, you passed.
Now, they do make you get out, they do shut the car off, and they do turn the ignition on to check for CE light operation prior to restarting . If it doesn't illuminate, you fail.

They probably think people are defeating the dash light in an effort to pass, but we both know unplugging a bulb won't really change anything in the course of the readiness tests, so I don't know why they now do that..

Default Emissions test

Thanks for the reply ..

Thats Exactly right.....They make you get out of the car pay them their 10 dollar fee..then they remove the gas cap, hook something up to it..and then they sit in the car..plug in a computer of some sort then turn the key on....where as they use to stick something up the tail pipe..and look for leaks under the car with a long mirror...man thing have changed...It looks like I may end up having to remove the entire dash / guage cluster to get to the bulb..Im not looking forward to that...but I did find a step by step link to do this at:www.spdkilz.com

The other thing not allowed is a test incomplete. So if you cleared codes and then didn't drive enough for the test to complete that is a fail also.
