Can anyone that has the Kirban shifter explain how it differs then the stock unit. Is it more precise, easier to find gears, etc. I am trying to decide whether or not to get one.
I have the Kirban and am really happy with it. The throws are shorter and firmer. The Height is slight lower and I have an aftermarket Momo ****. I would say the throws are more precise.
If you're not in a hurry to replace your shifter, I would wait a few weeks until the Hurst shifters are released and see what the members say about them. I'm on the list to get one as soon as they're available. I've heard good and bad about both Kirban and Ripper. Probably will hear the same about Hurst but we'll see. :seeya
I have been using the Kirban now for almost one year. Its a great shifter.
I used the Ripper for a year before the Kirban, it is also a great shifter.
Both are short and precise but the Ripper is slightly better in both regards.
The major difference between the two? Noise. The Kirban emits more noise and the reason being, Kirban does not include a boot to cover the base of their shifter. B&M does. The other major difference, the Kirban is easier to shift and requires less effort than the Ripper. But, the Ripper breaks in nicely over time. I have had no problems with either shifter. You wont regret purchasing either one. They are both excellent.
ps- I do not believe the Hurst will be leaps and bounds better than either shifter available now. We have installed the Ripper and Hurst shifters in Trans Ams, SS camaros and the like. They both are great shifters and similar in all respects. We have one of the first shipments of Hurst shifters coming to us. I will install it on my car and report my thoughts.
