Default Code issue P 0106 MAP Sensor

My head & cam car just started throwing the P 0106 code. I checked the manual and it is for the MAP sensor. I have the FAST 90 manifold on it. I think it may have come out of the manifold, or died.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I found it didn't fit real well when I installed mine and re-mounted the MAP sensor. If you look from the driver's side with the fuel rail cover off you may be able to see it.

Could be a mechanical problem, could also be a tuning issue.

Your PCM relies on two tables to judge where the MAP kPa values should be at any given RPM and throttle input %. A minimum kPa table, and a maximum. If the PCM receives a MAP kPa value outside of those table boundaries, the P0106 code is thrown.

On larger cammed cars, it is possible to exceed max predicted kPa in the lower RPM/TP% cells, even when everything is mechanically perfect.. On a 2001 OS however, you'd have to idle in excess of 85 kPa to pull that off, and if all is well mechanically, your cam isn't nearly big enough to do that. My cam is a lot bigger than yours, and I never had to tweak these tables (I also have an 01). I idle around 70 kPa. On 02/later operating systems, these max values were lowered to 65kPa at idle RPM's, so those with 02/later cars are more susceptible to this condition.

Now, if you have any sort of intake leak, coupled with the bigger cam, this could throw you into the same issue real quick. Checking the MAP sensor to intake fit, and also the little vacuum line that controls the hvac doors would be the first things to check. If you can't find anything wrong, and hear no whistling sounds (indicative of a manifold leak)...it's time to get your car back to the tuner and get some logging done to see where your kPa values might be going out-of-bounds.

I have about 50 miles or so on it after the build & tune. I also noticed that it didn't fit too well in the FAST. I will take a look at it later today and see if I can find anything. No problems in the first 45 miles or so; then it threw the code twice.

I have a spare off my LS1 intake if you want to use it for troubleshooting.

Thanks! I may take you upon that depending on what I find.

I will try to take a look at it later today; but if I can't figure it out it will have to wait until the end of the month. My shcedule is pretty full between now and then

The sensor is in the correct place and is sealed. I checked the vacume line at the back of the manifold, and it is OK. THere ae no vacume leaks. Could the sensor have died?

Great! I will give you a call when I get back in town (around the first of April) The malted barley beverages are on me

I have checked everything I can think of and can't find the problem.

I dont know but I think I had this problem once. I had the 02 sensors crossed I think... (I dont think this could be your problem because it would run like ***** if you tried to drive it...)

I also found the nipple cap off the throttle body had split...
