Default HELP with header/starter removal

I need to replace my starter in a 97. I have long tube headers which have to come off to do the starter. I am mechanically inclined but this seems like a big job to me. I have the car up on blocks right now and have been checking out what needs to be done before I start. Also I am calling aroung to get prices if I decide to not do it my self. Any suggestions on what it might cost me please let me know. My main question at the moment is how hard/easy will this be? The headers are slipped into the pipes where the cats used to be. I am just worried once I get all the bolts off I will not be able to pull the headers out of the pipe. Doesent look like much room to twist and turn and wiggle them out. Are there any tricks to this? Please any help appreciated. Also if you have any shop recomendations in the detroit area please let me know.

You'll have to remove the 6 header bolts and shift the header around to get at the starter. The starter bolts are easy to get to, the hardest part is the wiring to get off.

Your right that it may take some doing to get the slip-fit free. I'd try doing that before loosening the header.

Probably take me about 2hrs to replace the starter.

well, the slip fit definitly wont come loose unless the bolts are off. Otherwise it isnt going anywhere. Not sure it will with the bolts off.

you have to take that header off.

do that then move it and take your starter off....pretty straight forward once you get in there. just remember how to put the wires back on the right way.
