Default window issues not the common problem

Ok first I have searched and read about the motor and relay issues and this seems to be something different.

My passenger window will usually go all the way down without any difficulty but will rarely come up all the way. It makes a sound like the glass in my old 73 camaro when it rubbed against the door and was scratching. However, no scratching here. Just sounds like binding or rubbing but I have it apart and all looks well.

However, I do note that when I pull up on the glass assisting the motor occasionally it will go all the way up. Even then though there is a gap with the glass somewhat to the rear in front and also a gap in back.

Do you guys think it is a motor issue? Rarely the relay will click and nothing but most times it moves all the way down and then just partly up.

I guess I'm wondering if I should try get the window all the way up and then align it or not? I am not even sure if I could tell if it was as far up as it should be ... is the motor actually getting it all the way up or would i be attempting to align it from the wrong point?

I just don't know where to start with this. Maybe the answer is in the forum but I have read all the writeups and I just can't figure it out.

Thanks for any help fellas.

Chris.

congratulations!! you're the newest member of the "frayed cable club"

if you take apart the door in question, you'll see that the cable that pulls the window up and down is frayed. This is what causes the noise you hear and eventually the window will get stuck in the down position.

Unfortionatly this problem requires replacment of the entire window regulator unit whih runs about $150-200 depending on where you find it.

Here's my "how to"
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ndow+regulator

I took me a whiel to find it because at the time apparetly I couldn't spell out of excitement.

Good luck.

Thank you. I thought I might just have to replace the whole thing. Can you tell me how to find "SMP performance." I have googled this but never come up with a parts place.?? The only place I could find one was ebay for 220.

Thanks again.

Chris.
