I plan on taking the vette in the shop this week to get a few rattles taken care of. While its at the shop, I would like to get as many of the fluids replaced (the dealership owes me a favor so it will be FREE). I've heard some great things about redline.
Background info: 2001 vert mn6, 7K hard miles on it, Dallas, TX. I drag race as often as I can, and will be running nitrous after this winter (no more than a 75 shot). I use it as a daily driver when the weather's nice, and my baby doesn't drink oil, yet.
Which fluids should I change and what's the type of fluid. Be as detailed as possible and thanks!
I will give you my opinion. I used Redline before and it is a good product. However, when I got my C5 I reviewed a number of products and in the end I chose Amsoil over Redline because of the level of testing that they do vs. that done by Redline. The base for both Redline and Amsoil is the same. I didn't feel comfortable with Redline in my 02 that is still under warranty.
As far as type, I used ATF in the tranny. Now shifts noticably smoother. I used their "2000" 75W-90 gear oil in the differential and I will be using their 5W-30 in the motor when I change it this week.
Most of these companies post technical data on their web sites (ASTM test results) that you may want to look at. Also, for the motor oil, check the API web site and you will find that Redline doesn't have an API license. Again, I think they have good products but I am not willing to risk a dispute with GM if I have a problem with my car.
I am changing to Amsoil. I now have Mobil 1 throuout the car and I am sure it is satisfactory, but if the literature can be believed, Amsoil is a better product. Good luck with your changes and the "squeaks." :D
