Default C5 Glass Information Needed

I searched and searched, but I only came across a thread debating the actual part number(s) for Z06 windshield replacements....

I need to know the correct OEM windshield part number for a '98 coupe with no HUD. I'd also like to know the OEM windshield part number for a '01 Z06 with no HUD.

Additionally (but of less importance), I'm curious to know what the difference would be if I put a HUD windshield in either car, and I'm also curious if anyone has ever put a Z06 windshield on a coupe simply to save some weight.

Thanks guys,
LO PHAT

Jake6304: Thanks for your reply. I didn't know the cost difference was that great. Since I don't have the HUD, I'm not that worried about it (unless the HUD glass is darker or something like that).

I am seriously surprised that no one else has replied to this post. I'm scheduled to have my windshield replaced next Saturday, so this is a very important and time-sensitive issue for me. I have a reputable company doing the install with only OEM glass, but they were asking questions about things like dot-matrix around the edges of the glass. Did GM even offer that?! I want to make sure that they get the right glass (as in what came from the factory) the first time around!

Can anyone help me out here?

'98 coupe = 10295096

'01 Z = 10426201 Note: This windshield is not shown as either "with UV6 or w/o UV6" and is Z06 specific. Presumably it is HUD compatible as well as being lighter.

The hud glass is not darker in anyway at all. JUst make sure the oem glass does not have and warpage in it it took me going through 6 w/s to get one that was perfect they all were worped down the drivers side edge. I can answer any glass question you have I have been installing for 16 years...

the hud glass has a thicker laminate at the bottom than at the top my Buddy at AP said it is a real pain to make the glass the thicker glass lets the hud re fleck off the w/s

10295096 is for 1997-2004 cars with NO HUD ($384.10)

10426201 has been superceded by 10315114

10426714 has been superceded by 10315114

10315114 is for the Z06 (includes HUD) ($879.90)

Those are the only two windshields I can find for the Corvette now. The prices are the GM 'list" price. The windshield is interchangable between the 3 body styles, so if you have a HUD you get 10315114, and if you don't have a HUD (like a 2001 Z06) you can order 10295096. Looks to me like GM decided to reduce the number of windshield types to cut inventory costs.

Maybe GM eliminated the "thin" version in all this?

It is my understanding that the 10315114 is the "thinner" windshield ... and the coupe and convertable folks benefit from the "lighter" windshield if they have the HUD and install this part.

This is all very interesting indeed. Can anyone else comment on this?

Ok guys this is what I have came up with. This information is going through my glass source which is PPG not the dealership.

2001 to 2004 2 door hard top corvette
has two different w/s only
DW01514 GBN which has the HUD
DW01430 GBN which is the non HUD

Both of these are factory brands which is AP Tech. Both of these glasses weigh exactly the same there is no difference except for the HUD option. They tell me the z06 and a regular fixed roof coupe take the same glass the nothing to differentiate the two cars in the glass. The Hud glass is extremely higher but both expensive. Hope this helps out...

I didnt not call the dealership locally because I knew they would have no clue what I was talking about. Most dont know much about the glass side..So my findings are not the dealers answers just my company which is one of the best in the industry.

OK ... I just rescheduled the appointment that I had set for my windshield replacement tomorrow. Here is why:

I got a call from the glass company (Omega Auto Glass) earlier today to confirm the install appointment, and while on the phone I asked for the part number on the glass that was going to be installed. The woman said it was NAGS # DW1313. That didn't mean a lot to me, so I pressed further. She proceeded to explain that it is dealer glass made by Pilkington.

From there the conversation went downhill quickly as we argued over my definition of "OEM" and her apparent lack of understanding of "OEM" versus "OE quality." By the time the conversation turned to things like HUD glass and thinner Z06 glass (which she claims doesn't exist), I was done listening to the conversation. The install manager is supposed to call me back shortly.

What am I missing here, guys?

LO PHAT

P.S. I am having my targa top replaced under the same claim. Omega Auto Glass states that it has been ordered directly from a dealership, but should I be worried about possibly getting one of these after-market tops that exist out there? How will I know the difference?

There's a little bit of confusion in this thread from what I've read. The Z06 windshield is indeed lighter, at least the OEM windshields were. Here are the specs:

36.09 lbs - C5 Windshield
30.39 lbs - Z06 Windshield

They should be interchangeable and both offer the HUD laminate option. The one thing that is different is that the Coupe had the radio antenna wire strip attached to the windshield and hatch glass whereas the Z06 had the mast antenna in the back. I've never been able to get a straight answer if the wire strip antenna comes with the coupe windshield already installed or it's something you attach seperately. If it's the latter, it would be pretty easy then to get the wire strip antenna and use it for a Z06 Windshield for a coupe.

My car is a 1998 coupe. Mesa is basically a part of Phoenix, AZ (just to the east of it, anyway).

Found a 3rd windshield GM still stocks so here is my "list" of C5 windshields .....

10295096 is for 1997-2004 cars with NO HUD ($384.10)

10295097 is for 1998-2004 cars with NO HUD ($351.90)

10426201 was listed as a Z06 windshield - has been superceded by 10315114 - I'm betting this was the 2001 Z06 windshield (thin and NO HUD)

10426714 (was $1,012.76) HUD enabled - has been superceded by 10315114 - I'm betting this is the 2002-2004 Z06 windshield.

10315114 is for the Z06 and any other vehicles with HUD ($879.90)

AND to further confuse things .... glassman15's NAGS descriptions when ordering the glass .....

DW1514GBN is the Z06 HUD windshield
DW1430GBN is the non-HUD windshield ..... BUT ..... according to this post .....

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...p?p=1564161184 (see post #3)

DW1430GBN is the HUD windshield .....

Could someone with an ORIGINAL windshield look at the lower passenger corner of their windshield ..... and post if you have a Coupe or Convertible or FRC (Z06) ......

My understanding is that the "regular" windhield is listed as a 5.3 mm thickness, and the "thin" windshield is 4.8 mm, which supposedly saved around 5.7 pounds in weight. On the same line as the thickness it will say HUD if the windshield has the panel in it, and ALL windshields should say SHADED on the same line.

Damn I'm confused .......

Here is what I copied off of my two cars....

From my 1998 Corvette coupe:

E6
43R-009047
SHADED
SOLAR RAY
SAFETY FLO-LITE
AS1
AP TECH.
LAMISAFE
DOT 376 M334

From my 2001 Corvette Z06:

E6
43R-008008
SHADED 4.8MM
SOLAR RAY
SAFETY FLO-LITE
AS1
AP TECH.
LAMISAFE
DOT 376 M334

Notice the difference in the 2nd and 3rd lines. I am 99.9% certain that the glass in my Z06 is original from the factory (the car only has about 4,000 miles). I am not so certain, however, that the glass in my coupe would be correct as I'm fairly sure it must have had a windshield or two replaced prior to my ownership (based on 73,000 miles).

I'm fairly certain that the Z06 glass is part # 10315114 (which supersedes part # 10426201). That said, why the heck can't I find a correct part # for my '98 coupe anywhere on the entire internet?!?!

OK, I finally have enough part numbers to make sense of the 2002 Parts Catalog ... here's what it lists .... the bold numbers are the current part numbers

1997 and 1998 Coupe use 10295096 (HUD not an option)
1999 to 2002 Coupe use 10295096 NO HUD
1999 to 2002 Coupe use 10426713 WITH HUD

1998 Convertible 10295097 (HUD not an option)
1999 thru 2002 Convertible use 10295097 NO HUD
1999 thru 2002 Convertible use 10426714 WITH HUD 10315114

1999 - 2000 FRC use 10295097 NO HUD
1999 - 2000 FRC use 10426714 WITH HUD 10315114
2001 - 2002 Z06 use 10426201 10315114

So we end up with 5 original windshields ......

10295096 for Coupe - no HUD
10295097 for Convertible and FRC - no HUD
10426713 for Coupe with HUD
10426714 Convertible and FRC with HUD - now 10315114
10426201 Z06 now 10315114

So Lo Phat, for your 1998 Coupe ... you need - no doubt about it .....

10295096

There was a glass thread a little while ago where someone found OEM Z06 windshield for basically the same cost as non-Z06 windshield. The numbes on the lower RH corner were exactly the same as the factory glass.

Look in page 2 and 3 of this thread ... other links there also.
