Ok. hit a pothole and a few minutes later the service column lock comes up on the DIC. I tried searching but the other guy never got a response that was similar to mine. The recall was done on my 01 Z06 sometime ago, but the weird thing is that I don't get the wait 10 sec and pull key message. It comes up after I start up the car and after i turn it off. So whats goin on here? I don't get any other codes that come up.
This is weird, mine popped up on Friday with the same problems. I just had to get mine towed to the Chevrolet dealer and they said they couldnt diagnose the problem until the car was there.
I had the column lock serviced with the recall back in '06. Dont know what the problem is now...
My recommendation would be to pull up the DTC's in the DIC and clear all the DTCs and see if that rectifies the issue.
Do you have a Column Lock bypass?? If not, strongly getting one! Even if you have the damn recalls done, it can give you issues.
If you hit a bump and caused an electrical problem, it could be one of a 1000 things wrong. If I were you I would start at the battery terminals. They need to be CLEAN AND TIGHT. Torques to 11 ft/lbs for 97-03 C5s
Yea, mine hasn't locked on me, but im guessing that it will eventually. I'll try to clear any messages, and see what that does. I'll also start checking connections. Thanks for a place to start Bill
Just picked her up. I had the recall done 2 years ago and they placed something (I cant remember the name of it, of course) in the column lock that burned up. The only way for this part to burn up is if there was a high voltage spike or jumping the car. I just put in a dun-din and it wouldnt surprise me if the company who did the installation let the car die while doing it.
I want to say the name is a relocator but that doesnt sound right, I'll post back up if I remember it.

great, good to know. well sorry to hear that you got stuck, but great to hear back with what might have caused it. I will check it into it. Thanks
As Bill said, start with the battery terminals. Mine just recently came on after it being serviced for a column lock motor gone bad in which I had to pay out of pocket ($650+). I found that the second time around the message was due to the battery terminals being loose. Good luck!

I had the same thing happen to mine but just after I romped on it. The column wouldn't lock and I could get rid of the message by pressing reset but it is annoying. I tried clearing the codes but that didn't work so I did some searching. The secret is to disconnect your battery for ~ 5 min and just before you connect the battery up again you must say the magic words "hocus pocus" and then connect up the battery. The codes went away but just before I parked my car for the winter it was doing it again. Since my car is going to be coming out of storage soon, I plan on ordering a CLB tomorrow.
The above should get rid of the codes, but they will come back. I think a CLB should be able to solve the problem, but I can't say for certain since I haven't been able to find others with the same problem until now.
