I also posted this in the wheel section, but it doesn't get the traffic this section does.
I am planning on having OEM Speedline Z06 wheels powdered coated black with polished lips. I have front polished wheels, but no rears. I have a line on some painted rears that I could buy and polish. Has anyone done this? If so, what's involved? Any help appreciated.
I have a feeling you would not want to do this, yourself if you are referring to removing the paint around the lip only. Mounting the wheel on a lathe may be the best way to do this.
I agree, though, that the new chrome is gloss black with polished lip. That combination really stands out compared to silver and chrome.
Easily. First, buy yourself some aircraft stripper. This will remove the paint easily, and is safe for aluminum. then, sand the part you want polished with progressively finer grits of sandpaper. Then polish it up with your preferred metal polish. Have it powdercoated, and make sure to tell them you want the lip exposed.
