Clutch Problem?
The transmission in my son's 98 was scraping when he shifted hard into 2nd gear and occasionally when going into third. After going through all the possibilities mentioned in the shop manual, I figured the synchronizers on 2nd and 3rd must be bad. I pulled the trans and took it to the transmission technician who works for my local Chevy dealer (he's doing the work at home). He looked at the trans and said there wasn't anything wrong with the synchronizers or the gears. He thought it might have something to do with the restriction in the clutch line and the clutch wasn't releasing completely before I shifted. He recommended drilling out the restriction but I've heard that More Performance sells a replacement line without the restrictor. Has anyone else had this problem and did the Goodridge clutch hose take care of it? By the way: He bought this car used. 15,000 miles on it when he bought it and 18,000 miles now. I had my dealer run the vin to see what warranty work had been done and found out that 3rd gear was replaced in the transmission at 11,000 miles.
