Default need help fast!!!!!!! balancer problems?!?!

Hey guys, im finally going into my balancer replacement, and i get the old crank bolt off finally and this is what i see...i keep chewing up belts and my balancer wobbles, but what you can see in these pictures might not be right...is the balancer not on all the way because of a poor pinning job???? maybe my belts werent aligned because the balancer was not on all the way or am i being too cautious? i bought a new oem balancer, new bolt, and new seal. should i try to die grind out a section of the new balancer for the pin to slide into?

sorry i dont know how to post pictures and ive done a search so hopefully this works.

You should not be "die grinding" anything. If you have to go to all this trouble, get the pinning kit, and do it right. There are pinning kits made specifically for this purpose. Make sure you have an installation tool to install the balancer, and the correct torque values.

Not sure if I see your issue. Was the bolt loose when you took it off? Sounds like it was on tight. The crank is not suppose to be flush, if thats what your wondering. Its recessed 2.4 to 4.48mm from the lower edge of the balancer. Otherwise I'm not sure what you are getting at. Can not tell 100% but looks normal to me, but I'm not an expert and could be missing some thing.

FWIW you use the old bolt to torque the balancer on to 240 ft/pds, the put the new one on at 37
ft/lbs then turn it another 140 degrees

i put the new balancer on and it stops at the same point as the last one was installed to. im kinda assuming thats as far as it goes on and like you said, its not supposed to be flush. by the way, what is FWIW?

For What It's Worth

Good luck with the balancer. It's not a flush fit (think someone already mentioned that) there's about 1/8" lip between the crank and the balancer. Install the balancer using a temp bolt, re-pin it, and then use a new bolt for final torque.

Re-examined your photo's, missed the end on pin. A machine shop might be able to mill in a round slot or you will need to re-drill. This is one reason I like the ATI pin kit better.

As for the space, that looks correct and ensures proper bolt tension is applied to the timing chain crank sprocket. See figure below, which are part of the installation procedures.
