I have a 1998 used C-5 A-4 the engine needs cleaning its not bad but not to a point i want. Should i use a engine cleaner, or maybe just hot water and soap. Thanks jerryk :smash:
This is the best way I have found:
With your engine cold drench it with Simple Green Cleaner. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then blast it off with a garden hose. Then use a leaf blower to blow it dry. (if it is soiled with dirt use a rag to wipe down the engine bay with Simple Green before rinsing :D). Then spray some Armor All on a cloth and wipe down the plastic areas. Makes it VERY nice looking. If you want it to REALLY shine (but it'll be VERY greasy) drench the plastic areas with Armor All and let it sit overnight and wipe off the excess in the morning :D. But Simple Green is by far and away the best I have used to date.
I use the simple green solution describe by C5Noir and it works great, to date no problems. Think it's important to make sure the engine in not hot and to dry it off after cleaning.
I take mine to a do it yourself car wash, I wash the engine with high pressure soap followed by wax then high pressure rinse.
then spray the engine with no touch and wipe off the excess.
never had any problems from this procedure. just don't drench the air filter and it will be ok.
I take mine to the coin wash as well. It does a fine job and only takes 5 minutes. Wash with high pressure soap, rinse with wax and then clear water. The wax helps to keep the grease from sticking and staining the motor. It makes the next wash even easier!
Simple Green is good, but I have found that the ZEP orange cleaner from Home Depot used as a 50/50 water solution does a better job and cleans up well. Spray it on, wait a few minutes and gently spray it off with the hose. Towel dry or use a shop vac/leaf blower to get rid of the water. Follow with a good detailer. Enjoy.... :)
