Default Wipers gone WILD!! Please help!

Well, its raining pretty good in the DC area today and yes I had to drive the vette. Anyways, all the sudden my wipers have a mind of their own. I went to turn them off and they stayed on. I have tried turning the car on and off a few times and nothing has changed. Also they are wiping at all different frequencies no matter where the lever is. Anyone have any ideas? I dont want to be driving with wipers on when its not raining....I know this may be new to most of u since "vettes dont belong in the rain" but if anyone has any ideas that would be great. Its driving me nuts

I had that problem last year at the C5/C6 bash. I was on a road tour and mine came on for no reason, would wipe a bit and turn off. Nothing I did seemed to matter. It was not raining so I pulled over and took the fuse out. I replaced the wiper motor a few weeks later and now a year later I have had zero problems from them.

Under the driver side wiper blade there are three ducts that are designed to drain water out of the wiper's motor area. They get clogged really easy and water will just sit in there. I had this happen to mine and there were completely full of crap. After I cleaned them out and the water drained it's worked perfect ever since.

I am having this same problem right now, I went to the dealer, and the service manager said it was the wiper motor, he seemed pretty confident.

Just to add a bit to my post, I cleaned out the udders first and it did not have any effect. Hopefully with the clean udders, this motor will last for 11 more years.

I had this happen to me too. Clean those udders and install a new motor.

Here is a thread on how to do it: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1715595

I have a spare motor w/controller, if you want it PM me. I thought mine was bad but it turned out my linkage was not installed correctly onto the motor assembly, specifically that cam...

...and enlarge the lower port of the udders. After that water and dirt will be sluiced down much easier.

This happens a lot! Once those udders get clogged, water backs up and floods out the motor controller board. The motor controller board is on the BOTTOM of the motor and first thing to get wet!

If ,,,your lucky, it will dry out on its own and work normally again. I had to completely disassembled mine and sprayed it out with air and then with WD-40. That made it work again.
There is a small mechanical cam that will come off with the plastic cover. Make sure that you carefully note what position it is in when the cover is removed and put it back in the SAME position when you reassemble it. That cam sets the park position for the wipers.

My Vette came with said Cam in the wrong position! What a mess that was figuring out after buying a new motor/controller assembly!

Glad yours dried out and is functioning again!

I'm having the same problem with my motor. I'd like to check the utters but I can't even figure out how to take off the wind shield wipers. I've been outside for the past 2 hours and can't get those ****ers off to get underneath the shroud. Is there some kinda trick to it?

No trick but sometimes the wipers were be jammed tight. Take a look at pic #4 and #5. Maybe you have to use a small puller.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1715595

Taking off my wind shield wipers was a small thing with a little shaking and at one go pull up.

Good luck

There is also an access panel inside the wheel well that you can remove and get direst access. You have to remove the tire.

I have FAT hands and I can get them in there:
